Default I laughed til I . . . .

Please forgive me if somebody has already posted this link, and simply
regard it as my taking the opportunity to say that I believe that David
Sedaris (a regular contributor to The New Yorker magazine) is, IMHO, the
greatest living humor columnist (an almost defunct breed) -- better than
Christopher Buckley, even better than Steve Martin, and on a par with our
own beloved Jef (
http://www.worldsoldestlivingboy.com...roduction.html ). (And Dave
Barry should retire if he hasn't already, just to give the new kids a
chance.) Like Jef, I can count on David Sedaris for evenly spaced laughs
whenever I read him, with just enough time to catch my breath in between.
Sedaris truly reminds of me Jef -- except that Sedaris is gay and living in
France. If you have never read David Sedaris, I urge you do to do at every
opportunity, and to start here:

http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2...a_fact_sedaris

This essay constitutes a summary of Mr. Sedaris's thoughts on his former
addiction to cigarettes, and a memoir of his life with Kool Milds (a brand
to which I adhered for manly years). I laughed 'til I . . . recognized
myself in his words, then laughed some more.

A number of David Sedaris's essays are archived at www.newyorker.com , and I
recommend them highly.

ep oooooooof

That's a lot of reading, and will take twice or three-times as long,
depending on how many tears are left in your tearducts.

Besides my stomach hurts now so much, and I've only been through 2 of
the story's.

Your post should have definetly come with a warning! After all, I
have a bad heart, but then again they say laughter is the best med.
OUCH!!!!

Thanks a million,
Love Lizzy

Absolutely wonderful!! Thanks so much, ep. Although living thousands
of miles away, I grew up with the New Yorker. Being young, I didn't
read the articles but loved the cartoons. My parents had (and I still
have) several cartoon collection books - Charles Addams, George Price,
Peter Arno along with several in a series 'Best cartoons of (year)'
(the earliest being 1945) that contain no New Yorker cartoons but are
of the same sort. Daughter #3 and I have similar reading tastes and
she had gone through the cartoon books many times so I got her 'The
Complete Cartoons of the New Yorker' a few years ago for Christmas.
But, back to Mr Sedaris. I could really empathize with his statement
"These were my people, and now I would be betraying them, turning my
back just when they needed me most." I really felt that way.
I hope to read more of his work.
Thanks again!
Sue - still chuckling

EP! Between Jef. and David Sedaris, there is NO comparison! Jef.'s
sense of insanity is totally giggle-resistant and you know to put your
coffee down before you even open the page. I did enjoy David's story
but I feel I've read better accounts here.
