Default I'm Getting Blank Stares

....at the convenience stores. There are several I frequent and since
Saturday, whenever I get to the counter with whatever I'm buying, I've
been getting a lot of blank stares. They just kind of stand there
like they're waiting to hear, "I'd like a box of Marlboro lights,
also". Finally, they snap out of it and ring up my purchase, but
there's been a lot of pregnant pauses lately.

Cheers,
Rob (waking up the baby meter)
Four days, 11 hours, 27 minutes without a cigarette...gimme something

I still get the same thing at my local haunts. I've told the people
who work there just so I know I can't get weak (there). And you know,
keeping that $7.50 in my pocket makes me realize who has the last
laugh. Stephanie - who thinks your meter looks just great!

I know the feeling. When I went to the gas station/convenience store
where I always bought my cigs the lady turned around to get them off
the shelf without me even asking. I stopped her and explained that
that wasn't what I was there for.

Rob! [yes, I'm paying attention this time! <G>] I do know what you
mean. I had to just stop going to the places where I used to buy the
sickerettes for a while as I just could not deal with that sort of
situation at first. Now, I do go there and the first time I did, they
did expect the buy, but did just ring up the milk with a wary eye.
Keep on keeping on, your meter is looking better every day!

That sounds like it's an amusing moment Rob. I could picture Rob
having fun with this...

Rob says "Oh, and I'll have a..." Rob rubs his chin as he scans the
items behind the counter. "Uh, I'll have...ummmm..." as Rob's eyes
continue to wildly scan over the items. The clerk blindly reaches back
behind himself while still looking at Rob, waiting for the inevitable
to be said. Rob now looks as though his visual scan is focusing on an
item, but it's not his regular cigs. Rob says "You know, I think I'll,
a... try...". The clerk retracts his reach for the usual cigs and
looks carefully into Rob's eyes, looking for a clue as to what Rob is
going to ask for. "No, not that" Rob mutter to himself. "I'm going to
a...", again Rob's eyes begin to slowly scan the items. The clerk,
trying to anticipate his choice, reaches back to the shelf, hovering
over assorted packs of cigs and other items, all the while keeping a
close eye on where Ron's stare was focused. Ron's actions have the
clerk walking from one end of the shelf to the other, in a slow and
confusing manor. Then, as a though a switch was thrown, Rob's face and
looks return to normal, as if the whole incident never happened and
says, "This will be all".

I can see the look on the clerk's face.

Well done Rob.

Rob,

Convenient stores were major triggers for me.
I learned how to buy gasoline outside to avoid going
in altogether. And buying the other stuff at real stores
is better, and money saving too.
