Did you see that France's smoking ban kicked in, too?
When I was in France, seemed like *everybody* smoked over there.

As of Jan 1, the province of Alberta is now smoke-free in all public places
and workplaces. Smoking is now forbidden within five metres of a doorway,
window or air intake vent of a public place or a workplace.

In addition, stores must remove retail displays of cigarettes by July 1.

yup and:
An anti-smoking movement that started in a tiny Nova Scotia town appears to
be spreading across the country.

Last month, Wolfville became the first jurisdiction to ban smoking in cars
when kids are riding along.

The province then followed the town's lead. Starting next month, it will be
illegal for smokers in Nova Scotia to light up in a car when anyone under 18
is on board.

Yes, Ashley, I do think that the article mentions the French
connection as well. Ain't it grand?

Right you are...it's certainly made the news over here. The Alta gov't will
be looking at passing the same law here as well.

And I just heard on the news that it will be illegal to sell smokes in any
store that also has a pharmacy. I believe this will go into effect sometime
in then ext 12-18 months.

Ugh, we have started cleaning the ceiling. eewwwwwwww.
The place is already smelling better. I am THRILLED this law finally
passed. Nobody is really complaining they must step outside to smoke and we
just had a fantastic weekend, so revenues are fine.
I am abit worried about summertime, as I have no beer-garden, but we shall
see.
xoxo,
Cat

I am just thrilled with this law too! My daughter's friend works in a bar
just over the border in Wisconsin and she said that all the Illinois smokers
have flooded the place. I imagine that Wisconsin non-smokers will be coming
to Illinois and it all should even out.
