Some of you know I am also sober from alcohol.It will be 4 years July
16.Tonight I gotta go speak at a treatment center and tell my story. I have
never liked public speaking and I am very nervous. I have done it before and
will do it again and be ok,but this will be the first time i wont have
coffin nails to calm me down.Dont worry I am not wanting to smoke,and I wont
smoke. Wish me luck that I dont make an ass of myself and that I can say
something that will help someone on the path to sobriety.I will be back
after the meeting to catch up on the posts I need to repsond to. I love you
all and am glad to be on this smokefree journey with all of ya.And Tiho, I
am determined to make the biggest splash next year in the OF hot tub!!

That's the spirit! YAY! Good luck out there. Remember that to most of
the folks there you will be a Very Old Fogey, so to speak!

Keep that in mind, as we both look forward to the day we jump in that
tub *together*!!! We must warn any BBQers in a mile radius!

nicodemon. You're conquering that beast, you can handle just regular

Just picture your audience sitting there, completely nekkid. If you

Well I laughed about your post!! I can imagine the tumbleweed and you
shuffling off the stage! If I had spoken the way I post on here,it would
have been ME shuffling off!! Somehow talking about the BDU and saying fuck a
lot wouldnt have gone over too well! LOL

,but I did it! I always come away from speaking feeling great once its all
over. It really helps me alot. I hope it helped them.
It was a smoking meeting. Most of them are smokers. I was ok!!! It didnt
really bother me to be around the smoking either.Too busy being nervous I
guess. Now I dont make a habit of deliberately going where there is lots of
smoking,but I figure as long as Im not craving and I have a legitimate
purpose for being in a place, I can get thru without smoking. Not that its
a good idea to be constatly going around it,but sometimes it cant be
avoided. Luckily for me, almost all AA meetings around here are nonsmoking.

Well done also as someone has already said on this thread you can use
this now ...put it in the armory. The tumble weed bell tolling bit is
a straight steal from a show called "shooting stars". which ran over
here a while back.

Congratulations on the smoke-free time you have - and the (almost) 4 years
sober. I think a lot of us here are AA's. Things like speaking at AA
changed for me after I stopped smoking. Things that had a lot of 'me' in
them changed after I stopped smoking. I don't think those things have the
same sparkle as they did before, but they're more real now. Reality doesn't
have any 'me' in it so it doesn't seem like it sparkles. But it's real -
and that's cool in a way that is beyond my judgement.

yeah it did go good. They acutally were interested in hearing what i had to
say!
It was a smoking meeting held out on the porch. But I managed not to stare
at the cigarettes or obsess about them. Hell,I had other things on my
mind,like not makign a fool of myself.LOL. ordinarly I stick to nonsmoking
meetings,but I made this speaking comittment before i quit smoking.luckily
most AA meetings are nonsmoking and people have to go outside to smoke.

Damnit! That's the third! I've managed to put all the rescued quitters
back on the list. Now I need to cross-check the quitlist with the offlist.
