Default Laugh at yourself, in time you will

When I first quit I was a grumpy bastard. I took myself way to
seriously. It's was because the early battle breaking this addiction
of ours can be tough.

Things can get very singular when you are first in the trenches you're
just trying to survive hour by hour. Don't worry things do get better
if you can't smile for a bit, let it slide, tough it out, use whatever
you can to hold on to your quit.

The people around me when I first quit deserve a medal as big as a
dustbin lid. I can look back now and laugh about the way I was. The
way I would break things in a rage. At the time if someone would have
said to me lighten up Chris I would have ripped their arm off and used
it as a football (Tim gone but not forgotten).

So don't lose heart all you new quitters out there use a bit of
anything you can get your hands on to keep quit. It will get better,
it will pass, the other side of this addiction is so worth the effort.

Fight the good fight
Chris

Gotta agree with you on this, Chris. I think it's one of the reasons
why there is so much humour here in AS3Land. We have come to learn
how powerful humour is in off-setting the anxiety that goes with
quitting regardless of which method we use.

No harm no foul Tiho.
Tim was a mate of mine who used to say some of the oddest things. The
list of stuff he came out with was endless. He came out with the arm
football thing (it's usually I'll rip your Head off and use it as a
football) he was a Hard nut and was threatening another fella at the
time. We fell about laughing when he said that he got madder and
madder till we all ran away. Unfortunately he died about 15 years ago
I just like remembering things he said. I miss him greatly. But it's
good to remember.

A conscience does not prevent sin. It only prevents you from enjoying it.

I think, no, I know, when you first quit that's all you can think
about - not smoking. It is an obsession. Since the only thing you want
to do is smoke, you can only think about your "deprivation". DON'T
think about what you are "giving up" - think about what you are
gaining - peace of mind, clear lungs, clean teeth, stable heart, free-
flowing arteries, clean breath, respect of self. It is our curse that
we identify smoking as something we are "giving up" - we are NOT
giving up - we are "getting rid of" a horrible addiction. Been there,
done that. Just "get rid of" this addiction.
Hugs,
Pam

Now worries mate, Tim would have laughed. Every time I drive into a
car park I think about him, I ask him to get me a parking spot in a
busy car park. He once had a fantastic argument with a bloke when this
fella pinched his parking spot. Do you know what ? more often than not
a parking space miraculously appears when I think about him.

I lost my best friend in 1992, the year after we graduated from high school.
I mention this, because many times I see her hand in parts of my life,
sometimes clapping in support and other times smacking me on the head. And
I am thinking of her tonight as I watch this storm roll in. We spent many
a night lying watching thunderstorms at the lake and talking about life. We
had plans for growing old together, and I miss her every day. The good
memories, of those who go before us, eh? Maybe Lorie and Tim are laughing
at us now. I can hope, anyway.

Hugs

Sarah

Why Chris, I was as sweet as a rose, it was my miserable old man that had
the hard time! Do you believe me? Steve and I had plans for the
bitchiness when it set in, and we came through it still married and still in
love, more in love than ever if you can believe it.

An Ax works really well, it has great gripping power and the sound it makes
as you swing it about your head really helps to curb the homicidal urges.
That may have been the PMS talking, though.

Luckily, we didn't have many moments like that. We've been luck enough to
enjoy a freedom quit where every day felt like being released from a prison
and returning to the life we should have had in the first place.

Most of the above was tongue firmly in cheek, my friend. Beautiful post.
Hope that you and the missus is well, tell her that we are cheering her on
in absentia from AS3. And smack the boy about the head once or twice for me
as well. ((((((Chris)))))))

It can only get better.

hugs and kisses

Sarah
