Default NYC Meet

Well, tonight is my first AS3 meet. I'm starting this morning out in
Concord, New Hampshire. About 10:00, I'm leaving for a brief visit to
Mom's in Norwood, Mass. Then it's on to Stamford, Ct where I will catch
the train into the city. Finally, the 4, 5 or 6 train to 86th st.

One may ask why I would go to all this trouble just to spend a couple of
hours with some people I've never met. The answer lies in my first AS3
quit about ten years ago. I was going strong and had a couple of years
under my belt. I never 'felt the need' to go to a meet. Finally, I was
taking a break from one of my night courses and one of the guys was
smoking a butt. I salivated. I asked for one, just one. Over 7 years
later I was back up to a pack + when I finally made it back to AS3. I
feel now that every little thing that can help me stay quit is worth
doing. I think that meeting people face to face who have helped me stay
quit may somehow give me that extra little boost just when I need it the
most. Will this give me some kind of guarantee that I won't smoke again?
Nah!!! Of course not. But every piece of armor that I can build up will
act as a kind of inoculation against that one day, that one moment, when
I think "gee, maybe just one...".

Screw that! A day trip from New Hampshire to New York City is a breeze
and a joy compared to smoking! And I get to meet some great folks with
whom I share a common bond!!!

See you there!!!!

I have not smoked in 10M 1W 1D 18h 17m. That's 313 days! I have not used
any nicotine at all since 9/03/2007.

Thank you for making the effort. I look forward to meeting you. Have
a safe trip and say hi to Mom from one of your no-smoking-bunker-
mates! Stephanie

Hi Phil, your story sounds like mine. I quit a long time ago too, but
startyed again after two and a half years. So now when I could be
going to the new york meet I am in Houston for my grandaughter's
birth, so I'll have to make it next time. Hopefully it won't be in
five years when we're all five years older, its nice to see see that
glimpse of youth's flower.

<chuckle> *That* ship sailed a loooong time ago. The petals are
drooping and the leaves are shriveling.
