Default OT- Milk Thistle - info for mon ami and anybody else who want's to know

Milk Thistle - Agcient Herb For Modern Conditions

Related to artichokes, daisies, and sunflowers, milk thistle "Silybum
marianum" has been a popular healing agent for more than 2,000 years.
Its seeds contain a variety of substances called silymarins, of which
silibi nin has been a topic of research lately.

Both in vitro and in vivo research suggests that milk thistle may
prevent and possibly help treat a variety of cancers. Experimental
studies show the following benefits from milk thistle:

1. inhibits prostate cancer cells
2. reduces the frequency of drug-induced colon adenocarcinomas
3. inhibits growth and enhances regression of skin tumors with
topical application
4. slows growth and DNA synthesis in breast and cervical cancer cells
5.. inhibits profileration of leukemia cells and possibly even lung
cancer
6. helps lower the incidence of bladder neoplasms.

Milk thistle also appears to offer neuroprotective benefits. Some
herbalists report its positive effects on carpal tunnel (repetitive
stress) syndrom, multiple sclerosis and myalgias.

The latest research suggests that silibinin is a potent antioxidant
that modulates the insulin-like growth factor system, as well as
potentially fighting the spread of cancer.

So, Marv even thou you have in all likelyhood milk thistle growing in
your backyard, so not eat it without your doctors supervision.
However several European countries have approved this herb for use as
a drug and you may be able to buy it at a healthfood store or
pharmacy.

Anything else you want to know - just ask!

Lizzy! Thanks for this information on Milk Thistle. I've been taking
it for a few years as part of my holistic medicines along with the
pharmacological stuff my doctors prescribe. I can't say it has done
diddle for me, but I do know my T-Cells just keep climbing and that's
a good thing. <G>
