| | | OT: Northern Exposure ~ My Adventures in Canunkastan Well, I have finally uploaded and labeled the photos from my
fortnightly sojourn to the Northern Kingdom. I have them divided into
two folders as one is of my walks in Toronto and the second my
adventures in Ottawa and the visit to Jimi's Mom's house in the
woods. The links are: http://picasaweb.google.com/Flatiron...Exposure022008
and http://picasaweb.google.com/Flatiron...Exposure022008
I do hope you enjoy them a bit!

Mike,
Great pics and narrative.
Thanks for sharing that, it was fun.

Mike, I enjoyed your pictures very much. I have never been to Toronto
or Ottawa. Did have a brief visit to Quebec one winter. Very
lovely. We took a side trip to the Church of Ste. Anne de Beaupre.
But your pictures gave me a real sense of what those cities are like
to live in. You are a splendid photographer. So nice to see the
buildings preserved and maintained.
Thank you. And welcome home. We missed you.

I enjoyed them a lot!!!
Your narratives have me curious: is your knowledge of architecture
self taught or are you trained? Your photos and comments seem to come
from the heart and it's obvious architecture is something you enjoy. I
imagine if it was a job at one time it was one you enjoyed thoroughly.
Have you ever traveled through small town Midwest? Back in the day
(turn of the 20th century) my town had more millionaires per capita
than any city in the world. Quite a few lumber barons built homes
that are, thankfully! still standing. Some just take your breath
away.
Anyway, I'm rambling. I really enjoyed your photo tour of
Canunkastan!

Oh, I did. Thanks for posting them. *Some* day I'm going to get
around to doing something with the Picasa software that I downloaded
how many months ago? I have some architecture pictures you might
like.

replacement for smoking and love walking around cities. I am glad you
enjoyed them!

| | | Re: OT: Northern Exposure ~ My Adventures in Canunkastan Thanks, Joyce! It is good to be back but I certainly did enjoy being
out of town. I realized as I traveled that it had been over 2 years
since I'd been out of the City. Sure, everybody comes here, but it is
great to go somewhere else! <G>

| | | Re: OT: Northern Exposure ~ My Adventures in Canunkastan Thanks, Leslie, for the posting. I did take a course in Art History
and Architecture the quarter I studied in Vienna. The instructor was
a curator at the Kunsthistorisches Art Museum in Vienna and was
passionate about buildings and the various styles of architecture.
I'm very drawn to stuff that was built pre-World War II as the
ornamentation on buildings then is so varied and interesting. When I
see suburban tract housing I just feel bored to tears and even more so
when I see an office or business building from the Modern Period.
They simply look like over sized cereal boxes most of the time.
I'm originally from Cincinnati and have been in many small towns
around that area. I am not as familiar with Iowa as I was only there
one summer when I was in college for a conference. I would imagine
your town having notable mansions though as the Mississippi River did
create many millionaires in the day. I would certainly enjoy seeing
it if I ever do head that way.

especially. Oh, and that sunset was particularly splendid. How
beautiful it is up there!
I cannot wait to visit my friend up there who lives in London, Ontario
but not until June so then the snow should be melted by then, right?
Thanks so much for sharing and I am glad you had a good trip!
