Default OT: A Terribly Strange Bed

I just got back from a trip to a bed shop, and came out poorer by
some 1200 dollars.
It was one of these beds that you can raise and lower the head and foot
end. I have one here, but just after moving in here, i dropped the
control thing into a glass of Scotch that was on the bedside table.
From then on, it works but the vibrator will not go off, and I don't
fancy sleeping on a bed that is buzzing and vibrating!
(BTW if you don't already know, the Subject line is the title of a short
story by Wilkie Collins.)

I didn't, but there's also 'The Night the Bed Fell' by James Thurber.
Hilarious IMO. I hope your new bed doesn't fall on anyone.

Ian! A bed that vibrates and buzzes??? Egad, that would make my cat
crazy to say the least and my company would probably start giggling
and have to leave since my bed is right in my living area since I have
a studio. My parents had that sort of bed and they loved it, but they
never dropped the controls into a glass of scotch. Guess you need to
keep your scotch in a sippie in the future so it doesn't happen
again. At least with all your savings from being smober you can pay
for the bed a lot faster than before!

He was a marvelous humorist - I envy his skill. I don't think I've
read the one you mentioned but The Night the Ghost Got in was read on
the radio recently and it was still as funny as the first time I read
it.

Oh it's paid for - I have a horror of being in debt from getting in
too deep when I was in my twenties. My accountant once remarked that I
was "very unusual". I asked what he meant and he explained it was
because I didn't owe any money or have any debt.
From what I hear on PBR, it does seem there are a lot of people in
serious financial trouble in this country.

I don't know if I've read that one but I have it right here and will
read it right now. Both those short stories were originally published
in 'My Life and Hard Times' and republished in the book that I have
here - 'The Thurber Carnival' which has selections from many of his
collections of short stories.

Well Kathleen, I did as you asked and imagined the dreams I might
have.....but my better judgement tells me not to share them with the
group....that might be embarrassing.

smoked, saving $322.36. Life saved: 2 days, 15 hours, 55 minutes.
