Saw in the NY Times that today is the 40th anniversary of the opening
of the musical 'Hair' on Broadway....

My father was at a convention in Chicago many years ago and thought
he'd be super-cool and got tickets to see Hair while there. I'm not
sure what rock he crawled out from under when he made that decision,
but for the rest of his life he'd tell the story about how he walked
out in the middle of the show because there were NAKED people on the
stage!!!!!!!

Today my 18 year old son thinks Hair is one of the best musicals he's
ever seen!

I don't feel ancient. I just look it. :-)

Jeez Mike, You find the damnest things to write about.
I thought HAIR was about some damned long haired hippy freaks.
Who'd have thunk?

Dave, HAIR is just about all those things and a lot more. Certainly,
it was a cultural milestone of it's day and the nudity was a shocker
at the time.

I never saw Hair on stage nor the film version, but I do have the
movie soundtrack for 2 decades now and love it.
I also love Jesus Christ Superstar, both the movie and the soundtrack.
I wish I get to see the stage version one day.

Ahhhh .. it always made me feel pity for Judas.. "Damned For All
Time". And now that I quit smoking, I can make the high notes in "I
Don't Know How to Love Him" and "I Only Want To Say" (to make it
OT )

The way the character of Judas was approached, and how the writer
odffers us to rethink and revalue his role in the final days of Jesus,
is one of the major points I love the film about.
How much free will did he really have, and how predestined were his
acts? Is it possible that free will is predestined? Jesus obviously
knew what will happen and exactly who will have the crucial role days
before The Kiss.

Getting in on this one late. I must have missed the original post and
my newsreader doesn't keep copies of old posts. Had to Google it.

I've never seen Hair or Jesus Christ Superstar, but I have always
*loved* the soundtrack to JCS....

Inky, I'm totally jealous. My voice went away due to pregnancy and
cigarettes. It's coming back slowly, but I miss being able to sing
well.

Tihomir, I've always wondered that myself..... Judas is so reviled.
But how can you BLAME someone for something that is predestined?
