This last weekend was "Oat Harvest Day" and I took a handful of pics, for
those who need a distraction!
With hope and heart,

OBnosmoking: Time away with family was always a good way for me to distract
myself. In the car, I squeezed one of those squeeze balls like there was no
tomorrow. I also kept cut straws the first couple months. and would
"breathe through the straw". It was very calming because it forced me to
take deeper breaths. |

Wow Kathleen what an incredibly interesting outing! I've never seen
anything like it before.
I remember my first drive smober. I had Finky the Wonder Cat in a
carrier in the back. He was HOWLING. I mean SCREECHING. . I was
driving from New York out to middle New Jersey (ie a long trek).
Sensing this would be a challenge (1st drive, plus Screaming Cat) I
brought a bag of ice with me. I sat there with this ice cube bag ....
uh ... er ... in my ... lap... (I was freezing my lap off) and was
downing this stuff at record pace. I ended up breaking a molar in the
first year from all the ice, just recently broke THAT habit.
I haven't driven in the last couple of years. I'm going to think of
the straws if once I get my car back I feel the heebie-jeebies. xoxo |

I'm glad you liked the pictures. I should have gotten more. There were some
people from another association (some kind of tractor club meets there too
and they use lots of old-timey tractors to do various activities) and they
had a machine that they hooked up to an ice cream maker and made homemade
vanilla. It was heavenly!
With hope and heart,

Awesome pics.
Looks like such a peaceful place.
I've gotta get out that way one day. |

I spent Sunday, but then we don't plow Madison Square Park. <MBG> I
did wonder though if the field was donated by a farmer who wanted a
freebie for some of the plowing work that is needed to get the field
ready for planting? Shades of Tom Sawyer and the whitewashing of the
fence...<G>

| | | Re: OT: Updated pics! The field that was used is leased by our host. I've been told that in the
"old" days of the association, whoever hosted scheduled everything and they
actually did work all day and got something done. In our case we just all
do what we feel like doing and have fun! My Dad hooked up his covered wagon
and we rode around the field all day long. My daughter and I got to drive a
lot, several people who were just driving by stopped and got rides and
driving practice, and I got to hear some childhood stories that my Dad
rarely ever talks about!
On Plow Day we probably plowed half the field, but it is all for fun too.
With hope and heart,
Kathleen, off to resize and post those pics from SeaWorld!

Kathleen, I enjoyed your pictures so much! I love horses of all
kinds...draft horses are so incredibly beautiful to me. I remember
the first time I went on a winter sleigh ride. When I got my first
glimpse of a team of HUGE PERCHERONS coming out of the barn...it took
my breath away. They are sweet, gentle giants. I think that was one
of the best things I've ever tried/experienced. That day was so cold
and miserable, but, going through the deep snow and through the
country paths was just amazing. You can just *feel* their power when
they dig in! Do you participate in these events a lot? own draft
horses? You are lucky to be a part of something like this. Thanks
again for sharing your awesome pictures!

What a wonderful experience - especially for kids. Your DD has
absolutely gorgeous skin.
Thanks so much for posting these. I'm going to pass along the link to
my GMF who is a farmer.

| | | Re: OT: Updated pics! I am so glad you liked them! My Dad owns Percherons, and has been in the
Percheron calendar several times. He was "May" last year, lol! He owns a
carriage business but his real passion is breaking/training them. He is
really good at it. For me, I lost that desire but my kids love it so we go
to the events and I enjoy the people. I drive a little. If he had a well
broke riding horse I would ride but the last quarter horse he had was so
high strung that it was WORK to ride, and no fun at all. The drafts *are*
truly gentle giants. I love them! We used to do sleigh rides when I was a
kid, with a little pony and a toboggan!
