| | | OT: What can it mean? For the past two months these numbers have come up.
First month it was 10:11 everytime I looked at the microwave for the
time there it was. 10:11
This month it's just the opposite - 11:10
Driving me crazy. Even played the Lotto with these numbers- nothing
Anyone into numbers?

Was just heating up some water in the microwave and when I took out
the cup, there it was 11:10
So strange, also smelled cig smoke in my other bedroom yesterday, it
was so strong that I had to check for an ashtray. The other thing is
I find feathers in front of my door almost every day, I have a whole
pile now, maybe I make a head-dress ;-)

uhmmmm, that happened to me once. One of my clocks always said 4:31
when I looked at it. Turns out I forgot to change the batteries. ;P
Seriously, if you figure it out Lizzy, please share. I'm always curious
about portents and signs....

The first number is 11 in Binary.
The second number is 14 in Binary.
So before the next number comes up to overflow your clock,
Please reset your life to Decimal, promptly.
Your clock is gonna try to display 100:01 and will probably bust All
of Time and screw up the Universe.

I bet my petty cash that you're the perfect company to watch forgotten
SF flicks from the 60s and 70s! No lights, cold drinks and hot
sandwiches handy. Wives away for the weekend.
Don't ask me why, it's just a thought that popped right after I read

Dear Lizzy,
I have a story about numbers and signs.
Two summers ago I was sitting at a dinner table in Tuscany with my
best friend from law school, Elizabeth. Elizabeth is about 10 years
older than I am, she is decidedly no-nonsense and practical, given to
solid advice and feedback. She is loving with me but not at all
sentimental or spiritual. That night we were talking about our
fathers. I had known her Elizabeth's Dad well when we had lived in
Cincinnati - Howie was quite the character. I remember loving the
exchanges between Howie and my then 7 year old Tommy and her then 7
year old Andrew (now both 24 and jr powers and shakers in DC).
Elizabeth had lost her Dad about 4 years ago, and I don't think that
she ever really grieved, at least I can't remember seeing her cry.
She has the steely composure that growing up with an abusive mother
gives a person. (She is very compassionate, just not emotional.)
This particular night I realized that Elizabeth was talking about
Howie's loss more deeply than I had ever heard her so I ventured into
the vaguely 'touchy-feely' land that I don't normally go with her, in
hopes that my experience would, for whatever it was worth, bring her
some comfort. I told her that since my Dad's death I felt like there
has been a shift in my relationship with him, a conversion of form,
but not a loss of closeness. I dared to tell her about some things
that I truly never talk about, namely how since my Dad's death certain
phenomena will occur in times when I have either been thinking
directly about him, or, more specifically, when I have been talking
about him, particularly when I have shared the truth of this
'continued connection' with someone who is hurting.
First I told her that very soon after his death I started to get a
sense of ready access to him. Like, when he was alive he was far
away, across the country, I missed him, I didn't see him that often
even though we spoke on the phone a lot. When he was alive I had a
very strong sense of the physical distance between us. I also was
very aware, when I was alive, of the places of pain and brokenness in
the relationship, which certainly contributed to the sense of
distance.
Shortly after his death, really pretty soon after, I started to get a
sense of the immediacy of the connection and that it was a ‘clean’
connection, unfettered by the stumbles and confusions that our life
connection could have. As though we weren't limited anymore to the
constraints of human time and place, that I could connect to him
inside by making the decision to do so. It wasn't - and isn't- the
same as praying; I am very clear that I am not connected to my Dad on
the same level I connect to God. It is very much a sense of melding
of hearts though, a sense of companionship and caretaking. It isn't
even a matter of whether I would have it be this way, it is that it IS
this way.
Once I was aware of this connection, little things started happening
that would reinforce the truth of it. The type of thing that happens
- it is little stuff - but one that happens with uncanny frequency to
this day (it happened this morning) - is that I will look at a clock
and it will be 9:11 - not 9:09 or 9:13, or 9:06 but 9:11. Daddy was
born in 1911, and we (as a family) always used 1911 as a code if we
needed a 4-digit combination, say, on a suitcase or something. After
his death I would notice how wierd it was that I would catch the cable
box, or my watch, or the computer just at 9:11 - and it wouldn't be
that I would notice it at 9:05 and then pace it out and 'catch it,' I
would have not looked at the time in AGES and catch it, to my mind,
completely inadvertently. Another thing is that if I have talked
about this, not about HIM, per se, but this aspect of my perception of
our continued closeness, and the fact that I believe in the
timelessness of these connections, invariably some other incredibly
odd thing would immediately show up - like an HMS Pinafore excerpt on
an old sitcom rerun - i.e. some complete non sequitur. Or an Agatha
Christie reference totally out of nowhere by a sports announcer on
some game I was watching.
Anyway, Elizabeth took my story in stride, not particularly persuaded
I don't think, though she didn't doubt my sincerity. I told her before
we left the dinner table, I said, it is largely a matter of PAYING
ATTENTION, of staying open to the power of love to transcend
boundaries as we know them. I got kind of a 'yeah yeah yeah.' I told
her, I mean it, I want you to pay attention. I also told her, I will
tell you how this ends up playing out, because I know it will, it
always does, something is going to show up in my life very soon that
shows that the our guys (Daddy and Howie) were connected to us here as
we had this conversation, that they are up there watching a ballgame
and having a Heinecken, and I got another 'yeah yeah yeah." I
specifically TOLD her that I was expecting this, I didn't know what it
would be, but that I KNEW it would show up.
The next morning we got ourselves packed up to leave the hotel, and I
went down to check out, to pay the hotel bill. Which was $1,911.00
EXACTLY. TO THE PENNY.
(Now, this was a wonderfully loving sign from Daddy and all, but I
would have been perfectly happy with say a Cole Porter song being sung
in the hotel bar in Italian instead, and the hotel bill being around,
oh, $1300, but who is to quibble with absolute signs from the
universe?)
I continue to catch 9:11 to this day, all of the time. For which I am
so grateful.
Sorry to be so long-winded.
