I love walking around my 'hood in NYC and taking photos of my
favourite buildings. Here are some I've taken over several weeks this
Spring. Madison Square usually figures in most of the adventures but
I have some of the East Village and Union Square Area as well as the
Meatpacking District in the far West Village. As usual my commentary
is my 3-cent opinion of how I see my City. I rue many of the changes
happening as I feel we are losing more and more of our soul for glass
see-though buildings that are so pricey only 'New' New Yorkers can
afford. Still there is much to enjoy and I hope you can see some of

program. Tourists going through your stomping grounds.

Thanks for that, Mike. As I think I mentioned to you, I used to live at
23rd and Park, just a few blocks from you. I saved a bunch of these
pictures to my hard drive so they'll show on my screen-saver slide-show.

That's a weird looking needle building they're putting up across from the
Met Life Tower. My old 'hood is changing.

And correction: Gramercy Park is the ONLY private park in New York. And
you used to be able to get into it if you were staying at the Gramercy Park
Hotel, which was a favorite haunt of mine and had the quietest bar in New
York, until Ian Schrager got his mits on it. Bohstid.

Thanks for the wonderful photo show, Mike. You may love New York even
more than I do. Each picture evoked an association in my mind of
times long ago and times as new as yesterday. I too love Madison
Square Park, although I don't actually get there much anymore. I used
to go to the National Arts Club quite often and have been to the
Player's Club a few times. Like you, I deplore the growth of those
unseemly glass towers. There are two of them rising in my nabe. One
on 86th and Third and the other at 86th and Lex. My building's
planter boxes are blooming out in front. Occasionally, some people
passing by think it's neat to pull up a few tulips. I remember, as a
child, going to see Santa at Macy's. We would come over on the ferry
from New Jersey. The biggest disruption in my childhood was leaving
this side of the country and moving to California. It took me about
25 years to get back to New York. And now I will never leave.

Whenever we go on vacation, one of our favorite things is to drive
around taking pictures of buildings. I like both old and new. She
likes mostly old, I think. My best friend collects photos of court
houses. Last fall on our way back home after our cruise, we stopped at
every town with a court house to take a picture.

I always watch Cash Cab when I happen to catch it on TV. I like the
questions as they are easy enough and I LOVE the panning of the City

Glad you enjoyed the pix, EP. I pass through 23rd & Park often on my
way to Union Square. Yes, more and more of the city is turning into
see-through buildings. I guess only see-through people will be
allowed to live there? I am not certain but I thought that I had read
of another Private Park in NYC but I have no clue where it is. While
I was aware of the deal of owning a townhouse to get a key to that
park, I was unaware that the Hotel had a key too. I've passed by it
often but never stopped inside for a look-see. Used to be going into
a Hotel Lobby was no big deal but now with security the way it is, if
you are not stopped you are made to feel so unwelcome that it's not
worth the bother.

Thanks Joyce! I did notice both of the buildings you mentioned on
86th Street when I was up in your part of the City for the Gathering
last weekend. The building at 3rd and 86th is not as obnoxious as
many new ones as there is some architectural design to it but still
nothing like the grand style of the early 1900s.
