Default *** PING HoEc ***

Got the ribs off the BBQ just in time -- a little crispy but purdy damn
tastey.

Neighbors were out salivating as I put them onto the plate "That's a lot
of meat for one person" -- "You get used to it, living with vegetarians"
-- and I raced by them up the stairs and thru the back door.

I hadn't realized you had to slow cook them ... thought they were like
steak or chops but luckily I used The Google and searched The Internets
before tossing them on the grill. Had them over a pan of water for about
3 hours ... they were pretty tender.

It was good to see you in chat last night, along with everyone else!

Cheers!

I throw ribs in a crockpot all day, then just smear with fresh BBQ sauce and
toss 'em on the grill on high for about 10 minutes to char the outside.
They just fall apart.

Same with corned beef - here's my highly-accurate, special secret recipe:
In the morning, plop a big corned beef into a crockpot with one bottle of
beer and the contents of the spice pack, if there was one packaged with the
beef. Cook on low all day. Take out and cool a bit. Put about a
golf-ball-sized clump of brown sugar into a bowl. Slowly add mustard and mix
until it's about the consistency of thick BBQ sauce. Smear all over the
corned beef, then grill until it starts getting black around the edges.
Cool some more, then serve sliced with Swiss cheese, mustard and horseradish
on fresh rye bread.

I had to back off my keyboard to keep from drooling on it.....

Here's a suggestion for left over corned beef (pastrami also works). I
used to get these for lunch from a deli on A1A in Deerfield Beach, FL.

New Yorker sub:
(I don't know why this was named the New Yorker, but the two deli guys
were from NYC and they named it.)

corned beef (or pastrami, I always picked the leaner choice)
swiss cheese sliced
creamy cole slaw (drained with a slotted spoon so it's not too sloppy)
1000 island dressing
crusty roll

Layer everything on the roll, wrap tightly in foil, put in hot oven
for 15-20 minutes.

Cut in half and slap one half on each hip..... No! I mean, enjoy!

I'm new to crockpotting and have found that ribs do right well. The
recipe I have is for some home made sauce and I don't do the grilling
afterwards. That does sound good though.

Yum, so does that. OK, without the horseradish.

:-)

.... I was hoping you'd be sober enough to enjoy them. Like the others
wrote, huck 'em in a crockpot in the morning, then at dinner slather your
favorite BBQ sause and char the outside on the grill. We've been this for
years and never a complaint.

I just love cooking with the slowcooker. But then I hate cooking, so
anything to make my life easier is welcome.

Safe roadtrip.
