Hmm. Ping Lee sounds like a Chinese fellow.
Well, this is totally off track but I was going through some of my
"stuff" the other day and I found a Los Angeles Examiner newspaper
from 1928. The reason it had been saved by my dad was that there was
a large pictorial about a reunion in LA of Minnesota State Societies.
There were 25,000 attendees including my grandfather who was from
Mower County and was the speaker of the day. According to the
caption of one of the pictures only 24,999 were from Minnesota and the
other person was the president of the Illinois State Society who "came
to express his state's admiration for its neighbor." From the
pictures it's obvious that everyone was having a great time.

Hey Sue,

My dad was born in Waseca County, just northwest of Mower County. I've
got origins all over southern Minnesota. Why my Dad chose to leave the
"relative" warmth of that part of the state and settle up here in the
glacial tundra , I have *no* idea, other than he'd spent some time in
the early-mid 1930's north of Duluth working for the CCC. Maybe he just
liked the hilly terrain of Duluth and the big lake.
