Hi, Mike. Ten bucks a pack!!!! I can't remember what they cost back
in 1997 when I quit, but I was smoking at least 2 packs a day, more if
I went out in the evening. I am aghast at the idea of burning up
$20.00 a day on a vile habit that will kill you.
I never got a meter because I didn't want some little bug thing
ticking away on my computer reminding me of my bad habit. But I did
the next best thing; I kept track on a wall calendar and I kept each
and every one of them. I used Nicoderm patches and they came with
little stick-on seals to paste on your calendar when you were coming
down the stretch of the six weeks without a smoke. That ploy worked
so well with me that I keep track on a wall calendar every year. It
helps that the World Wildlife Federation keeps sending me new
calendars every year. And you know how every charity you have ever
contributed to has your name and address and sends you mailing labels
to put on your outgoing mail. Well I have so many of those now, I use
them on my mail and still have hundreds of labels left over. So I cut
off the picture, whatever it is, and stick it on my calendar. Today's
picture is of a cute baby seal from the National Wildlife Federation.
And I have saved every one of those calendars. Kind of makes me happy
to see them all in a row in my bookshelf. The only drawback is that I
will never really know how much money I have saved by not smoking. I
guess the cost of smoking was never the point with me; it was always a
health question.

Would that be called 'bibliofeedback?'

Download the meter, use an average of $7 per pack, and run it once.
That will tell you how much you've saved! Then you can just remove the
meter from the startup menu. In a few years you can run it again, bump
up the price another dollar or two, and see how much more you've
saved.
$10 per pack.... amazing. I remember the cigarette machine in the
lobby of the building I grew up in. My mother smoked Chesterfields and
she'd send me to the machine with a quarter, and the pack would come
out with two pennies taped to the side for change.

Doesn't that really feel good!!! )
I'm getting excited by my next upcoming milestone... I'm a month and
10 days away from the 10 year mark. I never would have believed it
could be done.... But I did it... one day at a time. ODAT!

Hey Mike can we go back in and adjust our meters? Someone needs to
make a meter that allows us to update the $$$ as the cost of the
smokes goes up.
I can't believe what I was wiling to pay. Without A3S I'd be paying
it still. |

Are they going to increase the price/tax on Ho Hos and Twinkies and
potato chips and greasy burgers and Three Musketeers and Keebler
chocolate chip cookies? Might discourage people from poor eating
habits. Oh, no. Probably not.
