No, this is headed on seven weeks since I stopped smoking cigarettes, and
I'm surprised how easy it has gone, so far.

Do you smoke, Gamble?

Now tell me. Do you have a relative named Hickory or Dickory?
Some awful business about a clock as I recall?

Yes... someone here on the poetry newsgroups wrote and posted a poem
about that just the other day... maybe I'll get them to repost it...

It's true that Will is a self-promoter with little respect for such
boundaries, but by his own admission, he is apparently a recent
cigarette quitter, and so his commentary does have some, albeit
tenuous, connection to the groups listed. If cross-posting apparently
irrelevant material to AS3, and reading the comments of those who
respond in any way helps him maintain his quit, I say good on Will.
Do it more often! For years, we've dealt with all kinds of personal
crap here in AS3 that comes up for people in the process of their nico-
demon withdrawals. We can certainly handle Will's crap.

Since you're on the poetry groups, let's tell you about it in a poem.

Are you familiar with double dactyls? (If not: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_dactyl)

Hickoring, dickering,
Dockery's bickering
With a g-gamble that
Grumbles and grunts.

Gary's apologists,
Antimisogynists,
Claim Will considers the
Lot of them cunts.

An artist considers, which is to say understands and respects, the
audience. What you posted was insufferably rude by any common
standard. Okay, so as a poet you mean to be rude, to shock. As a
person, you must understand that some peolpe don't want to be in your
audience. They got sent there by mistake, misdirection. They thought
they were going to a self-help lecture. They just happened to pass
your soapbox on the way.

Well, yeah, I'm heading into seven weeks of non-smoking, and I find it
becomes slightly more difficult as the weeks go on... so, basically I
should have phrased the subject title as a /question/, which I just
did change to:

Non smoking tips?

I'd like to hear them.

It's supposed to get easier with time.
What I sense is that you are just getting complacent a little.
Just remind yourself that smoking kills, the tobacco companies are shit
incarnate, and that just because you breathe better now is no reason to
smoke some more.

It only takes ONE cigarette - to blow a quit.

Yes... the trick is to keep away from lighting up that one cigarette.
I notice that if that initial desire to light up is put off, or
ignored, the desire passes in a few minutes.

So, after seven weeks, the /addiction/ is gone, at least the physical
one?

Yes.. the *physical* addiction is gone.
But the brain's "memory of addiction" is not.
The craving always pass quickly - if you smoke or not.

Eventually, that "memory" and the triggers will fade.
Everyone here reports that by 1 year they almost forget the ever smoked,
and by 2 years they effectively "did" forget.

That's how to do it.

Nicotine left your body completely the first week.

But your brain is still wired to crave it.

You need to give yourself time for your brain to restore
the original factory wiring.

Remember how you were before you started smoking and watch
people who never did. They don't need nicotine to function.

Great... I'd say every day and situation will possibly make this
transition closer to reality.

Thanks for reading and commenting, Bruce.
