| | | Slipped Briefly I had a small slip and smoked a few. I am truly sorry. I cried when I had to
reset my meter. I did flush the rest of the pack and have started anew.
Anyone who is sick to death of my contstant fuck ups,I understand. Just know
i am trying. I am really trying.

| | | Re: Slipped Briefly Becky you are going to get this - you are not the first person to run
into this type of thinking. I sincerely hope that you will spend a bit
more time researching what this addiction does to you.
I also wish you would come here first and post an SOS. If you could get
past breaking the quit and then reporting and turn it around to
reporting that you think you are going to smoke - perhaps there would be
opportunity for AS3 to help you in advance to adjust your mindset to a
more comfortable level of acceptance.
Do I add all this to my Christmas list?

<buttoning lips> <zipping lips> <super gluing lips> <holding head
under water> <putting pillow over face> These are the things I'm
doing to myself to keep myself quiet. These are the things you
*should* have done instead of smoking. <rolling eyes> Ok - that last
one just slipped out.

>I had a small slip and smoked a few.
Just what is it about the earliest part of a quit that you enjoy so
much?
As long as you keep sabotaging you quit your will never be successful.
WTF is it so freakin' easy for you to bust a quit, time after time? Do
you have "friends" that give you a stink stick when you beg for one?
Do you keep "just a few" in your purse or coat pocket? Where the hell
did you get "a few" to smoke? Did you go out of your way to stop at
the store?
You will continue to fail until you realize you MUST make changes.
Find a sub for your bowling team for a few weeks, or months, or
whatever. Cut yourself off from friends that continue to smoke. If
you can switch shifts at work. Find a new job.
Get the nicotine OUT of your system. Pick one: patches or lozenges,
or better yet, neither. They apparently aren't working for you.
It takes only a few days for nicotine to leave your system. After
than it's the habit you need to break.
Stop whining about busting quit after quit after quit. I don't
believe you're making a serious attempt at quitting. You find it much
to easy to "slip and smoke a few." Stop giving quitting lip service
and just fucking do it!
Yes, I'm pissed at you. Very pissed. You continue to fail to realize
you DO have what it takes to quit. You really do. Take a good long
look at yourself in the mirror and know that you ARE stronger than a
little tube of white paper filled with tobacco. You ARE. Just stop
it.

BB - YES! - You "go" girl - that's what I wanted to say, but you said
it in a "nicer" manner than I wanted to. Becky, you have to stop
sabotaging yourself.

Hallelujah!!! Yes, yes, yes. Thank You!!!!!! You said every thought
that was going through my head. My original skepticism wasn't met
very well so I figured I'd better keep quiet. Frustrating as hell.

| | | Re: Slipped Briefly Saying "no comment" is a comment I suppose. Wish so much I had the
magic words to write or a magic wand to wave that would make you want
to quit enough to do the work you need to do. The reality is that I
can't quit for anyone other than myself. I'm kind of selfish about
my quit. If one of us is going to bust a quit, all I can say is
"better thee than me".
Becky, you know where to find the tools you need (and I'm not talking
about NRT that doesn't seem to work for you). We have them in our
FAQs, www.whyquit.com and scattered throughout the internet. For
real life support, there is also a Nicotine Anonymous meeting held in
Richmond every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Location is St. Marks Episcopal
Church, 520 N. Boulevard.
No one in this group can do the work for you, no matter how much we'd
like. Bottom line is that its entirely up to you. Its not so much a
question of "will" power as it is of "want" power. If you want
smobriety badly enough, you'll do the work and you'll stay smober.
Hugs and best wishes.

ROFLMAO. I'm about as far from "elite" as you can get in this group.
I've offended just about everyone here at one time or another. Elite!

There are many ways to quit (and many ways to help), but the operative
word is "quit" which is *not* what she's doing. She's trying but a
steer can try.

Oh, Sue, no you did not.
When I first read your reply to Becky...
I had to agree, oh smack, you were right, she was not ready..
But Becky says she is.......
I am not God. Ummm, are You? I don't think that you think you are.
Her experience, strength and hope in Smobriety, well down the road, it just
my help me or you or some one else.

I never, ever, ever, thought that I would forget the gift.

Hey, I'm new at this too and am the last one to give anyone advise... BUT,
I've watched you struggle with the lozenges and patches which obviously
aren't helping.
Have you tried Chantix? Maybe you have and can't tolerate it or have some
kind of problem with it. I haven't been around long enough to know. I just

Amen to that! Some of you may not know that Cat was the queen of the
serial quitters in her day. There were times when I was tempted to get
in my car and drive 1000 miles just to bop her in the head. If anyone
here can help a serial quitter finally find the road to freedom, Cat
can. Becky - you listen to her, hear? Cat has traveled that long and
twisted road, and may be able to help you see through the fog.
Nice numbers there, Cat!

Wow, you got some responses there. But no-one asked the question I
want to ask you. I've been a serial quitter for 10 years myself,
remember - and it looks like I'd better be glad I never thought of
joining an online group during that time! ;-) I would have been in the
hotspot just like you.
Just know that everyone is rooting for you and that's why there are so
many responses. But don't get addicted to the attention! ;-)
OK, so seriously. Now what I'd like to ask is this: have you done a
post-mortem of what went wrong, what was it that made you light up?
Until you do this, and do this in enormous, painful, horrible detail,
you're not going to learn what it is that is bringing you down. How
about you write and tell us (or me, if you want to keep it private)
exactly what happened in the 2 or 3 hours prior to that first smoke?
I'd be interested to see what the sequence of events and emotions was.
Pay particular attention to the emotions, and try to see what happened
inside you to make you feel you couldn't go on.
You can beat this, but you have to bring a deeper understanding of
yourself into the picture.

| | | Re: Slipped Briefly Hi Becky,
well you've had some responses to your post and it's obvious that there's
people here that care about you quitting. some seem to want to wrap you in
cotton wool and others kick you up the arse but they all want to help you
quit and hope that they can make a difference. this has always been one of
AS3s strong points, people really seem to care and want to make a difference
and i hope we also still think that everyone is free to take what they want
and leave the rest. (sometimes good advice when interacting with a diverse
group of people)
here's a few thoughts of my own..................
cigarettes don't just magically appear in our hands! how did you get yours?
if you know from past experience that you're likely to bust your quit in
times of stress then you have to stop yourself from being able to get your
hands on cigs until you've had a chance to think about it. a lot of quits
have been lost because cigs were too easy to get hold of, even a 10 min
drive to a shop could be enough to stop you but reaching into a drawer or
asking someone is too easy.
we either learn to win or we learn to loose. every time you bust a quit you
learn to loose a bit more. every time you resist the urge to smoke you win a
little bit more of the battle to stay quit. once you learn that you can
win, winning becomes easier.
it always seems to end up with thinking that one or two more cigs won't
really make a difference......................
that sort of thinking can go on for years............ha ha .......... if
you can put it off today then you can put it off again tomorrow and so
on......................and then one day it has made a difference and you're
looking at the doctor and trying to understand WTF happened. well it
happened one cigarette at a time and one cigarette will always lead to
another and another and another....................................that next
cigarette makes all the difference in the world. it's the difference between
freedom and being a slave to nicotine addiction.
next time you can't hold on any longer and have to have a cigarette just
think of this............. if you were putting a loaded gun to your head (or
a loved ones head) with half the bullets in it and the chamber
spun..........would you pull the trigger?
would you risk pulling the trigger just a fraction, then a fraction more and
a little bit more and a little bit more? when would you stop pulling the
trigger? when will you stop smoking?
this is your quit and you are going to have to figure out how to make it
work. making mistakes is natural but making the same mistakes is foolish.
trying is good but you have to learn as well otherwise you could spend years
'trying' and all the time you do more damage and you might even get to the
point where you say "I've been trying for years and i just can't quit so
I'll just take my chances and smoke" junkie thinking at its best!
i hope you do find a way to stop smoking. i hope that one day you are using
your experience to help others and i really hope you don't leave it until
it's too late!
wishing you the best
richard

Absolutely.
Today I'm going to enjoy that gift by continuing with my tree pruning
project. One down and the biggun to go. I've come to the conclusion
that it's a wise thing to stick my mostly unused cell phone in my
pocket when I go up that ladder just in case I'm not killed or knocked
out if I fall off and have the sensibilities remaining to operate the
damned thing. GMF has instructions to post here in the event of my
demise. I'd hate for anyone to think that I'm no longer posting
because I blew my quit. Better dead. )
Have a nice day, Susan

ruin your quit!
Now you are furious with yourself and disappointed and sad, etc etc.
Figure out why you smoked and think of things that you could haved
substituted instead and get right back to quitting. Here's a hint that
worked for me: If you don't beg, borrow, barter, buy or steal a
cigarette, you won't be able to smoke. Don't have them anywhere near
you.
I'll be watching and I expect to see your meter growing.

I've been here for Becky for 4 years now. Sometimes, I feel bad for her
when she busts, sometimes I spank her.
Tough love is NOT telling someone that they are a 'no hope' case, as that
asshat called you in the other ng. To me, tough love is not saying oh
gee-darn, everytime someone fails. Sometimes, they need to hear truth. The
truth is, I am angry for Becky, not at her. I am frustrated and only wish
for her to find the freedom that she so deserves.
Same with you sweetie.
