Default So grateful I don't smoke!

It's 4th of July and I'm having thoughts of smoking counteracted by
firm reminders of how happy I am about my meter!
If I need any other reminder of why I don't smoke it will be next
week when I go to be with my sister for her second chemo treatment.
She's 47 and has smoked for about 30 years. She is divorce with twin 8
year olds and a 14 year old. She called this morning to tell me her
hair has started to fall out in clumps. The small cell cancer she has
is nearly 100% linked to smoking. It's fast and deadly and she
probably doesn't have but a few years at most. This SUCKS.....and it's
all because of those hot, death sticks we have all thought were our
best friends. Hell I still sometimes think I want one.

I don't mean to post gloom and doom and I don't want anyone to feel
sorry for her or me. I love this site and believe the humor and
activity is responsible for the success of my quit. If there's any
value to hearing how smoking is killing a loved one that will keep one
person quit... I'll share here....it's what's going on in my life
right now.
Thanks for letting me share.
You guys rock!
Angie

Angie - but you ARE doing this - not smoking. That's what it's all
about - good for you honey. Keep it up. Bad things happen to good
people - we don't know why - just keep up the good fight and DON'T
SMOKE!
Hugs to you & family,
Pam

{{{{{{{{{{{{Angie}}}}}}}}}}}}} I am sorry to read about your sister's
medical conditon and am confident it must be hard for you to watch her
dying. Yes, sickerettes are resilient in their ongoing drive to get
to you but you know that is NOT an option. Hang tuff & don't puff.
It does get better.

Does your sister still smoke? Hopefully both of you will stay smoke free
and heal up to have more time together. Your sister has probably bought
your freedom from the Nico-Demon don't let her down and don't let yourself
down. Stay strong and I am sending all the good thoughts and healing vibes
to you and your sister.

Thanks for sharing Angie. I'm sure your hard times will help some people
to firm their resolve and stay smober. You are the one who rocks for
sharing something so personal to help other people on the road to being
smoke-free.

Thanks , I think she still is smoking believe it or not. It's
disappointing knowing she does even in the face of death///but then
again I have no control over people, places and things so I can't
stress out about it. It will be challenging when I go back there to
keep from smoking but I am taking my laptop with me and will be
posting often!

smoke. I hold that thought when I have my urges. Smoking is no ones

Mike!
Thank you for letting me know about AS3! I will be constantly
reminding myself that smoking is not an option when I'm visiting my
sister...I'm hoping that witnessing the pain that comes from the
consequences of a career in smoking will help. That is if I combat the
'fuck its' which seem to horn their way in, in situations like
this....at least for me. Ya know....life is so so sweet. I find myself
treasuring its simple gifts every day. Not smoking is such a different
way of being!

Angie,
This post really caught my attention.
You have summed up my quit after the first month.....
*Combatting the fuck its*
Ya know, after 9-10 months, the 'fuck its' went away. I had invested too
much into my quit to blow it.
You will get there, I promise. Hang in there, take good care of yourself.
Sending prayers for your sister,
Cat-who's mom had smoking-related cancer surgery yesterday. BAH

Angie! Thank you for being with us. You do know that without you

I wish you all the best in your quit and in your life, and also that
your dear sister gets as much out of life as is possible. She could
not have wished for a better sister than you!

{{{{{{{{{Cat}}}}}}}}}}} Sorry to read that your mother had surgery
yesterday too. I do agree the longer we are smober the more it
becomes who we are NOW and the smoking self is no longer us. I'm
seeing that transition happening a lot at this point in my quit and
know it will be even more so the longer I'm smober.
