Default Tasty Buns

Made these 'hamburger' buns the other day for the kids to use for lunch
sandwiches. We toasted some up tonight to go with a pasta dish and they
melt in your mouth. Really outstanding ... it's from www.allrecipes.com
too http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Tasty-Buns/Detail.aspx

I doubled the servings plus kneaded the dough for 8 minutes by hand ...
habit eh. I just wanna make sure the gluten's developed enough for it
to rise. It took approx 1 to 2 hours for the dough to fully 'poof' up
at room temperature. And I sprinkled some flour over them just before
putting them in the oven.

Fack I love baking/cooking. I mentioned to my youngest that in 6 years
when she can go to college we should both sign up for a culinary program.

----------------------

Tasty Buns
Prep Time: 20 Minutes
Cook Time: 15 Minutes Ready In: 1 Hour 20 Minutes
Yields: 6 servings

INGREDIENTS:2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 (.25 ounce) package dry yeast
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup and 2 tablespoons water 1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt

DIRECTIONS:
1. Stir together 2 cups flour and the yeast. In a separate bowl, heat
milk, water, oil, sugar and salt to lukewarm in microwave. Add all at
once to the flour mixture, and beat until smooth, about 3 minutes.

2. Mix in enough flour to make a soft dough, 2 to 3 cups. Mix well. Dust
a flat surface with flour, turn dough out onto floured surface, and let
rest under bowl for about 10 minutes.

3. Shape dough into 12 slightly flat balls, and place on greased baking
sheet to rise until doubled in size.

4. Bake in a preheated 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) oven for 12 to 15
minutes.

----------------------

Cheers and Hugs,
Marvin

Why wait on her?
How old are your kids?

Financially, I don't think I could swing it right now. So kind of
planning ahead I guess.

Kids are 14 and 12.

The older one's not into cooking/baking -- eats healthy tho but just
doesn't want to bother prepping veggies and stuff (rinse carrots, put
in pot -- that's a lot of work eh). The younger one is the baker/
cook. She does cookies from scratch that are outstanding and she
really does enjoy it and takes a great deal of pride in her work.

I'll continue to mull the idea over for now -- you never know when an
opportunity will appear.

Cheers!

TODAY ...

... as I type, I have another dozen 'Tasty Buns' (this time with 1/3
of the white flour replaced with whole wheat) and a big loaf of whole
wheat French bread rising in the kitchen.

The sun's shining. The temperature is above freezing. The BBQ passed
all operational checks (has fuel and it ignites). Salmon filets are
soaking in a marinade in the fridge.

Today is a good day.

In fact, I think it's been a good week.

If the buns turn out looking as good as the last ones maybe I'll post
pics :-)

Cheers and Hugs To All,
Marvin The Baking Android :-)
