Default Today is day 4, empty??

Hello everyone,

This is the first time ever being in a support group and well as the
first time quitting. I've smoked for about 10 years and decided it
was time to stop detrimenting my body.

I'm not sure what most of the symptoms are, but I'm going cold turkey.
Is it normal to feel somewhat sad, a little empty inside?? It just
feels the day isn't as bright or as exciting without the smoke.

Thanks for listening!

Wow, if you already made it thru 3 days, you're on your way.
4th day was a milestone for me too.
Don't give up now.
Nicotine is a powerful drug.
10 years of using it regularly and it will take your body and mind a
while to adjust.
Welcome to AS3.

Fourth day is great Ccy, keep hanging in there. I can totally relate
to those feelings, but trust me, a cigarette is not going to make you
feel any better, only worse. Aside from the physical addiction to
nicotine, your body and mind have developed a psychological habit as
well. When we've become so used to doing something so many times a
day over many years, it's only natural to feel out of sorts when we
choose to stop. Those five minutes it would have taken you to smoke a
cigarette, and the repetitive motions of smoking are now free time and
it's up to you to take that time back and be good to yourself. Keep
your hands and mind busy with new activities that are incompatible
with smoking. Take a bath, grab some gum, dig out a Rubic's Cube The
days will get brighter and by staying quit, you can now fill that
emptiness with something so much more positive. It's said many times
here and is sometimes hard to believe, but it DOES get better. You
can do it and we are all here to help!

Thank you so much for the supporting words.
I never realized that being in a group that have gone through the same
situation helps so much.

I think my only concern now is the weekend. I have dinner on friday
and dinner and drinks on saturday. Being at a lounge/bar and not
being able to go outside sounds foreign, but I'll keep on sharing and
being strong. =)

HI Ccy and welcome to AS3,
Check out www.quitbuddies.org and look up the FAQ's that will get you
started.
I say anything you are feeling is normal esp feeling empty you are saying
goodbye to something you knew for a long time. and you feel the need to fill
that place, what you replace that with is up to you. exercise, food, gum, a
hobby.
pick up a meter at www.silkquit.org to track your non smoking time and
amount not spent on smoking.

Not only normal, but inevitable! the brain is missing that regular kick
it got from nicotine, and for which there is no real substitute, I fear.
And - it will get worse before it gets better, so stand by for some real
strong feelings of need over thenext few days.
Still, ten years is a relatively short period of beingon the drug, so
you have every chance of breaking it.

You've gotten other answers that I haven't read, but I'm sure someone
has told you that that is absolutely normal. You probably feel as
though you've lost your best friend. Trust me. You haven't. It's
amazing how your worst enemy can disguise himself.

It will get better. In a couple of weeks or maybe months (everyone is
different) your days will be more bright and exciting than they've
ever been when they were blurred by the smoky haze of cigarettes.

Of course. That's what we're here for.
Stay strong, stay stubborn and stay committed. Brighter, shinier days
are coming for you!

Welcome CCY! As you read the FAQs we have you will learn a lot about
what we are here for and how we work. Mostly we give tips and support
as we go down the road of smobriety. That you are now on Day 4 is
good as you are starting to detox. You do need to be especially
careful around alcohol right now as it lowers our will power so much.
If you do find that you are uncomfortable around them just excuse
yourself and give yourself some time to be strong enough to be around
it. But mostly read and post here and join us on the journey!

Hey ccy,

I totally remember that feeling. It was like I had lost my best
friend. (except this friend was trying to kill me) I felt bereft.
Empty. Alone. Really Bored. I took up a few better habits, reached out
to people, let some time pass. It's better now.

I'm so glad you quit!
