Default Today's Thought 11.18

If marriages were outlawed, only outlaws would have in-laws.

Oh, Mike, you have hit upon one of my secret vices. Yes, me, lover of
Mozart and Beethoven, me also loves sad songs sung by country singers
like Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings, and even the Sons of the
Pioneers. Don't ask me why. It just happened. I have the complete
boxed CD set of all of Hank's songs with the added plus of a lot of
pictures and some biography. I have even seen the 1964 movie "Your
Cheatin' Heart" in which George Hamilton (of all people) played Hank.

Joyce, Unlikely fan of country music.

Me, too. My preference is Baroque, but I sure do like country.

Some 25 years ago I took my son, then 7, to a children's amusement park
near Plattsburg NY. Inside this park there was a 'Western Town' where
every hour the bank robbers would get 'shot down' by the sheriff
assisted by which ever little kids were around, sworn in as Junior
Deputies. At the time, my son was the only one available for that
particular show (damn sheriff wouldn't let ME be a junior deputy...
didn't think my beard would fit the part,) and he saved the payroll. But
I noticed that the Sheriff looked familiar... and then it hit me... he
had been one of the lead singers for the Sons of the Pioneers! We talked
for about 10 minutes about his singing with some of MY heros, Gene, Roy,
etc. That was even more fun than killing bank robbers might have been.
But my kid got the badge...

Join the Club, Joyce! I had to move to NYC before I realized, too,
that I love country music. I learned it when I joined the Times
Squares Square Dance Club - a GLBT square dance group. At first I
just was telling myself that I love folk dancing and square dancing is
the American Folk Dance but after a few do-si-does I was hooked.
Dolly Parton did the rest...<G> I still have my cowboy hat as well as
my biker one...LOL

Well my wife has fallen in love with country music, but it still
doesn't grab me.
The stuff that leans toward bluegrass (Krauss) or rock (DChicks) is
OK.
I will say that country videos have much prettier girls than MTV and
VH1.
