Yeah, I'll sign up tomorrow.
Thanks....
Somehow, I get the feeling that I will have times tougher than this
week has been.
That may have been the physical hell week (softened considerable by
Chanitx), but I'll bet there will be some mental and emotional hell
weeks comings. |

Nice one David !! Well done !! The psychological part of smoking can be
a tough one to crack.....keep reading and posting, we have all been
through it and survived. I myself seemed to have a really tough time
getting my head round the fact that I was not going to touch the shit
sticks again.....but the penny dropped eventually, even for someone as
bull headed as me!! Your doing all the right things just keep doing it.
Well done again.

Happy first week done David! Congratulations! With every day passed,
you can say to yourself "the worse part of my quit is behind me, ahead
are no more uphill roads but sunny plains and shady woods".
THat is never more true than after the first week, and the last thing
you want is to go through it *ever* again!
Here's to David's last ever smobriety! Cheers!!!

Don't fret about tomorrow, the next day or anything really ...
Take the week and hold it with pride -- you did great because YOU did it.
Mental and emotional hell happen as part of life not as a result of
quitting smoking. Smoking's an addiction not a coping mechanism -- deep
breathing, exercise, yoga, whatever, are coping mechanisms because they
help prepare you for handling stress and relieving the physical effects
of stress.
Personal bit -- I slipped at 3 weeks after a huge fight with an arsehole
neighbor whom we shared a driveway with -- smoked 3 then tossed the
pack. The next week we put the house on the market, moved in 6 months
(in February, no less), a year later my wife ended up in the hospital
for 2 months and is only now (year and a half later) is ready to go back
to work -- I would not have survived this if I HAD been smoking.
And the move was the best thing we've ever done for ourselves -- the
kids love the small town (we were city folks), the pool, the sunsets ...
it's all good.
No fear. A crave won't kill you -- smoking will. And it will pass.
You CAN do this!
Stay strong!
Cheers,
Marvin

Yeah, I hadn't looked.
The fingers on both hands are the same color.
Don't think that my breathing, sense of taste and smell, energy level
or anything else has impoved.
I'm not gonna look for any of that yet though.
I'm still trying to focus on the freedom aspect.
Took the kids to their first day of school this morning.
Went to three classrooms to meet teachers, hung out in the library
with other parents for awhile.
I didn't start getting anxious after a half hour, wondering when, how
and where I was gonna sneak outside.
This group has been a HUGE help.

The sense of freedom is very cool -- someone posted recently on going to
a movie theatre and not having to get up halfway through.
I found I had a deeper appreciation of food after I quit -- enjoyed the
prep process and scent of veggies and spices (slow cooker particularly)
cooking.
And this group was critical to my quit -- I slipped at 3 weeks but in
ten days I'll be 3 years free. It can be done!
It's all good.

Ha! Kind of -- I got the job of Small Town Baker back in March, the same
day as my birthday and the same day the car dealership handed us a bill
for $850 (took it in for an oil change ... sigh ...).
I bake bread now -- by the boatload (or vanload).
Relating this to not smoking, the job is *very* physical, I've dropped
15 lbs, turned much flab to muscle, and feel as fit as I've felt in 20
years -- if I were smoking, it's doubtful I would have survived. Plus
there's so much multitasking involved (dough rising, baking, mixing,
etc) that to walk away for a cigarette would be near impossible (I work
alone so there's no one to delegate to).
It's all good. And it keeps getting better.
Cheers!
