Default Weekend's Wassailing

Went to a fine party on Saturday night sprinkling cider round the apple
trees and firing off guns in the branches. What's that all about then? A
good bit of dancing afterwards with a long line stripping the willow.

All goes to show you can have plenty of fun without smoking

Tim W
Two weeks, three days, 11 hours, 17 minutes and 36 seconds. 209 cigarettes
not smoked, saving £47.17. Life saved: 17 hours, 25 minutes.
Going all the way this time.

Yeah, this ignorant, self-centered american is gonna need some
interpretation.
You gotta remember, I'm using AS3 to make up for my lack of a college
education.

Yeah, this ignorant, self-centered american is gonna need some
interpretation.

Actually I didn't know what the party was about until it was explained to
me. A sort of pagan new year to do with putting back some of last year's
cider to ensure a good harvest next year, scaring off any evil spirits (with
gunshots) and then drinking and dancing.

Two weeks, four days, 9 hours, 55 minutes and 51 seconds. 220 cigarettes not
smoked, saving £49.72. Life saved: 18 hours, 20 minutes.
Going all the way this time.

Which pound using country are you in? I'm surprised that gunshots
wouldn't get you thrown in gaol.

I live in England. Lots of people in the countryside keep guns for game
shooting. They have to be licensed, they have to be kept in locked steel
boxes, they can only be sporting guns etc etc but there are lots of them.

Thanks for the info, Tim. I always think of indiscriminate gun firing
as being sort of a USA phenomenon.

This had me intrigued to the point of doing some homework - I am
originally from UK originally and never knew anyone else used the £
symbol, although I was aware of the Cyprus pound - I found this on
google http://www.xe.com/symbols.php
By the way unfortunately for them Ireland are now on Euro - except
Northern Ireland who are part of the UK.
Thanks for the distraction Sue!!

Wikipedia says it's an English barn dance.
