| | | Well, Wish Me Strength! I've made a decision I hope works out for me. I've been on the patch
for just over a week now and I've decided to just chunk them an CT
it. I've quit using the patches in the past and I've found that after
about the first week, it just prolongs the agony of withdrawing from nicotine. I've also quit enough times to know when I've got the
psychological part of the quit down and I believe I'm at that point
now.
So, I'll keep one with me just in case I really start jonesing, but I
think all will be well. I'm going out to play golf now and the family
will be away tonight, so I probably won't kill anyone. That's always
a positive thing :-) By tomorrow morning, most of the nicotine will
be out of my system and, being a weekend, I can seek solitude if need
be. You can bet I'll be posting tomorrow with my progress.
Please say a prayer for me if that's your inclination. I certainly
believe in it. Otherwise, just think happy thoughts for me as I make
this giant step toward freedom from this terrible addiction.
Cheers,
Rob

Hi Rob
I understand what you're saying about loosing the patch as I have planned
that I will get through the first few days or week with the patch so i'm
over most of the agony and then I'll get rid of the patch so I've got no
nicotine going into mine or babes system. I would definitely advice you to
carry one with you though so that if it gets tough going you can slam one on
rather than smoke.
Good luck |

| | | Re: Well, Wish Me Strength! Go for it, Rob! Getting off the patch can be tramatic and from what
you write, it sounds like you are at the point where getting totally
smober is in your benefit. If you do get antsy, post here as often
just writing it out makes all the difference!

Well, you've quit enough times that I think you'll know whether you
can make that step or not. I wish you all the best on this attempt.
Really.

I'll think happy thoughts for you. I used the patch just as directed.
On the whole it was a pretty easy quit for me that way. But, everyone
is different.
Stay strong, stay committed, stay stubborn. If you need to go back on
the patch don't consider it a failure or anything. Do what ya gotta
do!!

Rob, I've been an advocate for cold turkey, but I've changed my
thinking after listening to many people for the past year. I think
maybe that "Chantix" would work good for you. Have you thought about
it? Let me know. I want you to quit and I want whatever is best for
you. You've got another great quit going, and I'm rooting for you.,

Thx, Pam! Yesterday went very well. I did crave a bit, but I just
learned to feel the crave....embrace the crave.... BE THE CRAVE!

| | | Re: Well, Wish Me Strength! Rob, always do what's best for YOU. When I was quitting Cold Turkey,
I found the material at whyquit.com most helpful. I had a quit over
10 years ago that lasted for 18 months which was achieved by using
the patch (back when it had to be prescribed by an MD). I agree with
you about the prolonged withdrawal periods at each step-downs.
That's why I chose to do the CT thing this time. If CT doesn't work
for you, please don't hesitate to get right back on the patch.
Kicking this addictions butt is the most important thing most of us
will ever do.
And I wish you strength!!

Rob, I've read all of your posts and you sound like a fun/strong person.
You can do this. So what if you have to put a patch on to get thru a rough
time - no disgrace in *knowing* yourself well enough to get help before it's
too late.
I will say a prayer for you. I say a prayer for strength every night for
myself and everyone in this group.
