Default What I'm thankful for

(Overseas friends: Please excuse me and my Thanksgiving post. I hope
you have a lovely day even though it may not be a holiday where you
are.)

A little story: I got in the car to come home from work tonight, and
on the radio there is an ad for some ALL-NEW quit smoking method.
We've all heard the ad: I tried everything to quit smoking, blah blah,
and I never could until I found this MIRACLE product that's GUARANTEED
to work better than anything has ever worked, etc. etc.

I don't even know what product they were touting. But it occurred to
me that if I were not quit, I would probably have run home to research
this BRAND NEW SUPER SPECIAL product and try to decide if it would
really work or if it was a total scam.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for people using whatever method they
need to use to quit smoking, and if it does the trick for you, that's
fantastic. But, listening to that ad, it hit me like a lightning bolt:
I am SO thankful I don't have to worry about this anymore. I'm SO
thankful that I'm on THIS side of that fight instead of on the OTHER
side.

Among the many, many things I am thankful for, on Thanksgiving and
every day, being a ex-smoker is definitely near the top of the list. I
will be MMMMM on Friday, and will post an anniversary message for the
gnomes and such.

I hope you all have a wonderful day. Love and hugs to you.

Ashley

No smoking for 4 Months, 4 Weeks, 23 hours and 22 minutes (151 days).
I have saved $427.41 by not smoking 2,279 cigarettes and I have an
additional 1 Week, 21 hours and 55 minutes of my life to show for it.

Definitely in the top three... smoking was such a huge part of my life
that to have been able to give it the boot is indeed a miracle. Thanks
AS3 and have a happy holiday!

I have not smoked in 4M 1W 6D 13h 32m. That's 136 days! I have not used
any nicotine at all since 9/03/2007.

I agree with you, Ashley! I, too, did see one of those Stop-Smoking
Ads the other day as well and was so glad that I did not have to
evaluate whether it was hooey or something of interest. I am soooo
grateful that I'm smober this holiday and have something good to
gobble about! I will look for your 5M posting on Friday and send out
the gnomes for celebration! <G>

Same to you, Ashley. My daughter, whom I haven't seen in two years,
arrived with her husband last night from Tucson and one of the first
things she commented on was how good my house smells. I don't think
it smells good - it just doesn't smell at all like it used to - ewwww.

No excuse needed Ashley! We might not be celebrating today but we do
feel your joy and feel the good vibes even across The Pond. I am a
little jealous on the turkey thing though!
Thanks for sharing this story with us. I agree it is an absolute
thrill not to have to worry about such things anymore.

Hugs!

Thanksgiving is a holiday observed in Canada and the United States and is
not found outside of these two countries. Although I'm sure every country
has it's own special days of celebration to give thanks to local harvests.
For example, in Germany there is the Erntedankfest which is primarily a
rural and a religious celebration.

In Canada, we celebrate the first Thanksgiving on the second Monday in
October and give thanks to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which
Canada has been blessed. (As proclaimed in 1957 in Parliament.) We
celebrate this day by pigging out on moose-meat, giving each other secret
NHL handshakes, and watching the Canadian Tire Thanksgiving Day parade on
the CBC. ;-)

think I am kidding don't you? the pie itself is light airy thing topped with
whipped creme. the seaweed only acts like a thickener. y
SEAWEED PUDDING
1/2 c. sea weed
4 c. whole milk
1 c. sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp. orange flavoring,or anything you like.
Heat milk until simmer. Add sea weed and allow to simmer until it thickens.
Remove sea weed. Add sugar, vanilla, and orange flavoring. Remove from heat
pour into a graham cracker crust to cool and thicken. top with real whipped
cream and eat plain or jazz it up with fresh berries on top.

not sure if would use coney island weed tho might have a body to it

Thanks for the recipe, Lynn! I know enough about this group that we
are diverse enough that probably we have tried most 'everything' out
there collectively. I've eaten seaweed with sushi as well as in soups
from Japanese restaurants but I was unaware of a Canadian version.
Certainly this NG is a place where you learn a lot!

Actually it sounds pretty good, but isn't "seaweed" a generic term?
Um, do you get your seaweed at the beach or do you buy it somewhere?

Like I was telling Mike it is not my recipe but it is just taken from the
ocean or you could look for Irish moss in a store. funny I remember my uncle
buying dulce (seaweed) and was really excited " really we have that here for
free" I was planning to becoming a dulce millionaire at the tender age of 10
