| | | You Stink If you smoke.
Walking to work last night in the clear cool air and walked past a home
with a person smoking in the porch with the door open. Since I didn't
see them I smelled them first and because I was walking I was breathing
at a decent rate (long deep breaths).
Usually I hold my breath momentarily when I spot a smoker ... this one
ambushed me. The stench went straight through my sinuses right to my
temple almost and out my ear ... ack! Fack!
Truly disgusting.
Glad I don't smoke.
Glad you don't smoke.
Cheers and Hugs,
Marvin

Gosh I know Marvin. I smell it so strongly on those who have just
finished a cig too. Makes me think how disgusting I must have smelled
to others even though at the time I didn't notice it.
Every breath now feels soooo much better.

It's a great motivator to stay quit, isn't it?? :-D
No envy, that's for sure.
Congratulations on your meter too -- looks like a full month of freedom!
Well done!
Cheers!

HaHa!
Absolutely!
But I think THOSE people are pretty much everyone who doesn't smoke --
considering we used to 'enjoy' it at one time. Crazy huh?
I never thought I stank that bad but my kids refused to hug me after
I'd just had a smoke ... they'd reel away saying 'Yuk! You stink!' ...
I felt kind of hurt but I guess sometimes that's the just the nature
of the truth.
Hope you're having a good day!

My sister still smokes, which makes it very hard for me to enjoy spending
any time around her. Marsha and I went to see her recently. She was throwing
a New Year's Eve party for her daughter and her friends, and we dropped by
to see the elaborate decorations she'd put up. We hadn't managed to get
together for Christmas, so we used the opportunity to exchange presents with
each other.
She did not smoke while we were there, but her apartment reeks, nonetheless.
When I got home, I discovered that the brand new sweater I'd worn smelled
like an ashtray-- just from being in the room! We washed our clothes, but
the stink continued to float around our living room. I finally tracked it
down: It was the cardboard box that she gave us to carry our gifts home. It
had soaked up that foul, burnt chemical reek and was sitting there quietly
in the corner, blithely dispersing its stink. I broke it down and put it
into a plastic garbage bag and the smell disappeared.
Man, oh man-- how ignorant we all were for so long, and what a complete
eye-opener (nose-opener...?) it was to reclaim our sense of smell. What
changes the addiction wrought on us, that we didn't realize we had all the
aromatic appeal of a fresh turd! |

It's true: non smokers do find that I smell strongly, despite a hot
shower almost every morning and frequent hair shampoos.
Shortly after we married, my wife took me to on a visit to her GP, a
lady doctor, and introduced me. I then sat out of the way in a corner
while the doctor sat opposite my wife. 'Have you started smoking again?'
she demanded, sniffing. "no, it's him!" protested the wife, pointing.
And some years ago, when I was in a Glasgow hospital eye ward for
examination, I shared a room with two other guys, one of whom had a most
odd manner and was disliked by the other patients. The first time we
stood near each other, talking idly, he suddenly exclaimed "Do you smoke
cigarettes?' I was tempted to say there wasn't much else you could do
with them, but he interrupted by almost shouting, "The smell, the
smell!". An odd chap.

My kids have friends who's parents smoke in the house ... I guess. They
drop by and it's not hard to smell the stale smoke on them and their coats.
My eldest went to a friends this week where the parent(s) smoked
indoors. As soon as she got back home she took off her coat and tossed
it in the laundry hamper ... Luckily she also helps with the laundry :-)
It's really an eye opening experience to know 'This Is What I Smelled
Like' ... heh ... all these years I could have just shit my pants
instead of bothering with the bathroom and no one would have known. :-D
Cheers!

I just don't understand why people who smoke stink so badly these
days. When I smoked I NEVER stank like that (so I thought).
I try to always make it a point to silently feel sorry for the ones
who stink around me and hope that they too will break free of the
addiction. And naturally, a feeling gratitude that I've let it go
follows.
Life is good :-)

Just a beginner! Started on Chancix nine days ago, and it is having
a marked effect, so I'm only sneaking the occasional drag at lengthy
intervals instead of three or more an hour. I'm hopeful, since so many in
here seem to have kicked the drug.

Glad to have you with us, Ian! Within only a very few days after
quitting it will hit you how nasty stink sticks smell. You'll walk
past a smoker and you'll suddenly realize what the non-smokers have
been dealing with.
Stick around here and let us know how things are going with you. We're
here to help, encourage, scold, congratulate, whatever it takes!
Welcome!

I find it a great incentive, being able to smell other smokers! Could
smell one 10 feet away in a store the other day.
