Abnormal pap smear? Cervical cancer? Stressed out.....
I am really really stressed out about this.
I had my first pap smear in August. I was 22. (Yes, I know they're supposed to start at 21, but it was the first opportunity that I'd had). Apparently the results came back abnormal.
I didn't find this out until October or November. I'm not sure which. But the doctor's office sent me a certified letter instead of calling me and having me come pick it up, which confuses me. Their office wanted me to have a colposcopy.
However, since that exam, I'd moved, and was in the process of getting my medical record sent to another office. That office got the record, and their doctor looked at the pap smear results and said that I don't need to have a colposcopy, but that I'm going to have another pap smear in February, which would be 6 months after the first one. According to their office, abnormal results are relatively common, and that's why they wanted me to have another pap smear instead of having a colposcopy.
Something that I read online said that a pap smear that requires a colposcopy normally means that there is a relatively high chance of pre-cancer cells or changes. Which is really concerning.
What do you guys think?
All I know is that I'm scared as hell, and am probably going to keep stressing out until the test.
