Yes very much. As your doctor must have already told you that Type 2 diabetes is a genetic disease. The risk of your children acquiring it is highest if multiple members in your family apart from you already have diabetes. Also if your children are obese, inactive and have other risk factors for type 2 diabetes. If I had to put a figure to it, then I guess your child has a 10-15% chance of developing type 2 diabetes when you have type 2 diabetes. And if one identical twin has type 2 diabetes, there is a 75% likelihood of the other twin developing type 2 diabetes also. I’d suggest you immediately seek professional help.
