Default Advice for resuming after a year layoff

My weight is low, but what weight there is is flab.

I won't bore you all with why I've fallen back. The fact is that I was
at 10% bodyfat three years ago, and when I was at that level, I was
working out 4 times a week.

Starting back out, with low bodyweight and a friggin awful lean mass
to bodyfat ratio, what would you all suggest for my program? Eat
everything I see and lift like hell? Or diet like a hollywood movie
star and start over when I'm back to < 10% bodyfat again?

Thanks folks.

Good, we've heard it all before.

You know, those two facts are only loosely related.

Train. Three times per week. Eat less.

Neither.

How old are you and what are your goals? For 99% of the people out there, I
suggest starting off just getting your butt in the gym and cleaning up the
diet. I started back seriously now about 10-11 weeks ago and have been
dieting hard and training hard. I have lost about 20 lbs of fat and gained
about 15 lbs of muscle. I just recently started to increase my calories as I
am about as lean as I need to be now. I am now working on adding more
muscle. Just be VERY consistent and keep working. It will pay off.

Setbacks are a part of life. Try not to let it happen again .

My advice is to get back in the gym. Part of the reason that most
people fail when they try and get back in shape is that they bite off
more than they can chew. So get back in the gym, build an exercise
habit, and then, when you've made a little progress think about
modifying your diet.

This isn't to say that you shouldn't try and be a little more
conscious of what you eat right now, but make a habit of exercising
first before you go on the Velocity Diet or something.

So that's a net five-pound loss? How did you determine that you lost
20 in fat and gained 15 in muscle? Caliper, eyeball, dunk tank? Try to
limit your response to one syllable words, please. My vocabulary is
nowhere near that of your ohsosuperior 800 SAT Verbal score.

Oh, that's right, kill file. Never mind.
