Default It ain't a smith machine, It is a Jones Machine!!

It costs a lot more than a power cage, but it isn't that much more than a
commercial smith machine. I have seen this before. But this is the cheapest
one I have seen.

That's pretty cool. But, er, what's the point? What does it do that a
power cage doesn't?

Well, if i said "my gym owner" it would imply that he is mine.

Maybe the correct way to say it is;

I will send this link to the owner of the gym that owns the gym where i
train?

Or;

I will send this link to the gym owner, who happens to own this particular
gym that own, but also owns other gyms as well?

Or;

I will send this link to gym owner, who DOESNT own the gym where i train,
but send it anyway?

I thought that you would be in Iraq being a combat accountant!

Ya know, laying waste to the enemy with an adding machine.

How is the glute ham machine? Did you manage to put it together yet?

That is true. You can argue that it is not as safe as a power rack because
you have to rotate the bar to get the hooks over the pegs that will stop the
weight.

There is a smith machine movement out there in the consumer market. Many gym
equipment stores do not even carry power racks any more. But the do carry a
huge variety of smith machines. I think that the above product is an attempt
by a small manufacturer to sell a "high end" smith machine to the public.

Nobody is trying to be logical here. Just sell the products that the
ignorant public will buy. It helps to be ignorant when it comes to this kind
of thing. That way you don't have to be rational.

Is that not the case? I would have assumed he was your bitch, and that you
control him.

No, that implies that the gym where you train is owned by another gym, and
you're going to send it to the guy who owns that.

That still implies there's one big Gym Owner, only now you're explicitly
saying he owns several gyms, which is a tautology.

Oxymoron.

Yeah, I'm wondering how smoothly it "glides" back and forth when there's 3
plates/side on the bar???

No, I haven't tried it. I think that it performs OK. I just don't think that
it is that durable.

I have seen some big, industrial versions of this machine years ago that
were made form high quality components. This is a cheap knock off of those
other machines.

Which exercise did you have in mind with 3 plates on each side?

I am sure that with 3 plates on each side, the movement is dominantly
vertical.

Primarily squats, or bench.

Well it ain't gonna be horizontal, is it? Seriously though -- you say
dominantly. It's never going to be perfectly horizontally so there will
always be back and forth movement, right?

I think that if you actually lift those 3 plates per side, then forces
on the barbell must balance, so in a way, the weight on the bar retains
only inertia. I mean, it should work better than Smith machine.

Bastid! Yes, I got it put together. It was a great addition to the

Which one did you get? I've been considering the NY Barbell unit after
failing to get a line on a used piece of professional equipment locally.

Glad to hear it.

Has it thickened the errector spinae muscles on each side of the spine on
your lower back? Has it done anything for the top of the glutes and/or the

It's exactly the same. It's a temporary assignment with my agency and

Settle down Pat. I did not mean to excite you so much.

I am evaluating this machine for somebody who needs to grow in size and
strength in the posterior chain area. That is why I asked the questions.

Also, did you have to work into a full range movement over time? Or were
you able to do start with a full range movement?

It's OK, Lee, we're all gay as fuck, except Hudson; no need to cover
your tracks, besides I know you're hot for me in a prison way, not a
gay way.

But to give you a serious answer, I really don't know if I got any
hypertrophy going in those areas. I would think so, but I couldn't say
for sure.

I could do a full range once I figured out where to set the foot plate
relative to the pad and get myself in position properly. It was very
difficult and I couldn't do many reps, but I could do the full range
motion. I was hanging the torso down, basically perpendicular to the
ground, and pulling it up from there and on into the ghr at first. I
read somewhere on the elite/westside site that you should start
parallel to the ground, which I then started doing. This is more
difficult for the hamstrings, and if I had started this way, maybe I
wouldn't have been able to do a full range. By hanging down and
getting the torso moving first I had some momentum so the hamstrings
didn't have to fully initiate the movement.

Either way it's a great move and I think both methods have merit. You
get more back extensor work in the first way and hit the hamstrings
harder with the second method. Probably couldn't hurt to use both now
and then. Check the elite site for some good tips on technique and set
x rep schemes.
