I don't know about that.
I'd just be happy if she realized that laws that make sense
in an urban area like SF or Miami don't make sense for some
dude living in a cabin in the white mountains.

On the bright side, "Speaker Pelosi" will pretty much kill Hillary's shot.

Anyone that thinks HC had any chance of even winning the Dem primary is
a lunatic. HC even running sets up another Republican president.
The only supporters for HC are fat soccer moms and fags. Basically the
audience of a cher concert. LOL

As a country, I just don't think we're ready for 2 of the 3 most powerful
people in the country to be strident, menopausal man-haters. One will do
nicely, thanks.

Amen to that. There is real science indicating that menopause seriously
alters women. There should be assurances that women around "that time"
be monitored and put on estrogen therapy in order to be OKd for the
necessary security clearances. Not just political leaders either. I am
sure the shareholders of companies led by female CEOs would like similar
assurances, especially after fiascos such as Carly Fiorina at HP. While
us humans are civilized animals there is no denying nature its due!

I don't think you're trolling. You honestly believe Democratic control of
Congress is a good thing. That's fine. I'll wait two years. Speaker Pelosi

That is a downside. Last time we had the Presidency the nation got
hynotized and paralyzed by a blow job. (But peace and prosperity.) The
time before that, rampant inflation (but damn if that Middle East Peace
Treaty didn't save a couple million lives.)

Face it, Bush needs some checks and balances. He's throwing the baby
out with the bathwater. Read non-U.S. based press, like the Economist
or BBC news or anything from Australia. We've lost the moral high
ground. We can't spread democracy via torture and concentration camps
and the abrogation of habeous corpus. Our constitution works because of
checks and balances and Congress was not checking Bush. Whether Bush
was working for YOUR interests is another topic for another day, but I'm
just grateful that the amount of damage he can continue to do to us.
He's taken us from somewhat hated to thoroughly hated. He's taken us
from budget surplusses to huge deficits. Perhaps most unforgiveably for
me, he's taken a Republican Congress and made it stand for MORE
Government, for MORE Spending, for LESS entreprenurial support. He may
call himself a Republican, but as a Main Street business owner and
member of the Chamber of Commerce I can tell you that he's not any sort
of Republican *I've* ever seen.

Oooh, scary. Does it bother you that we're about to hand Iraq over to
Iran? Go ahead, show me any scenario in which this does not happen?
Play it through. Pay particular attention to how, twenty years ago,
Iran got 800,000 people killed fighting for a section of Iraq and the
only thing that's changed since then is that their strong leader was
deposed and Iran now has the bomb and the "democratic majority" in Iraq
align with the Ayatollah. Go ahead, explain how this can be saved.

It doesn't mean what you think it means. It's not terrorists taking
over bases. (By the way, the term "terrorist" doesn't actually apply to
insurgents fighting off an invasion of their country. "Terrorists"
means something different.)

Anyway, here: read up on it.

Nope. Not even close.

He means that a liberal Democrat will thrust us into socialism and the
madding crowds will own his house.

Scary concept. But can't happen. Won't happen.

David, you misunderstand the social welfare movement. Capitalism
demands that each party negotiate vigorously on their own behalf. If a
worker doesn't want to accept that wage, they go elsewhere to get what
they're worth. But what happens when one party has more power than the
other? Capitalism quickly exploits resources. Whether it's polluting
the environment (because it's cheaper and more profitable to do so for
any individual company) or leaving the crippled and infirm to die,
capitalism becomes a great evil if it doesn't have a safety net.

Both sides are required: market forces, greed is good, advocating for
your own best interests. It's what makes us vibrant and resourceful and
inventive. It's what gets us and keeps us ahead. But you ALSO have to
have the safety net.

Two tax bills got passed last year. I've been studying them at seminars
this month and they stink. Do you remember the "thousand points of
light" that said the government doesn't have to help poor people because
all the rich people will volunteer and give to charity? Well, guess
what. The income tax deduction for money put in the plate at Church or
dropped in the Salvation Army kettle has been killed off. There are
still income tax deductions for people who want to make charitable gifts
directly from their massive IRAs if their income is too high to want to
take a RMD, but charitable contributions typically made my middle class
people have just been largely wiped out.

If people don't ADVOCATE for social services, they don't happen. And if
they don't happen, then, well, there but for the Grace of God go I. Or
you. Tragedy can strike anyone and it's hubris to imagine otherwise.
No, I'm not in favor of crack babies or welfare queens. No one is. But
some abuse of the system is inevitable and we just keep it to a dull
roar (as opposed to the implosion that was communism.) You CAN'T throw
the baby out with the bathwater. You've GOT to help the needy. Because
it's not human to do otherwise.

But it's always a yin and yang thing. It never goes too far in either
direction. So relax and let the good kind people do their thing. You
really need them to be advocating for social services, even if you hate
to treat crack babies. Because the poor and the needy are NOT going
away, even (especially) under capitalism.

No. He means there is an amusing ironic connection between "all your house
are belong to us" and a dedicated socialist like Pelosi. We are already a
socialist nation, for the most part, and Democratic control of any part of
The Government will simply move us further, and faster, in that direction.

> Scary concept. But can't happen. Won't happen.

Yes, it is. Already has happened. Did.

Started big time with FDR. Has been steamrolling along, through every
administration, Democrat and Republican, ever since.

But it does keep you in business, figuring out the insane, ever changing,
tax code, and it keeps me in business, providing medical care to those who
can not pay for it nor earned it.

Is that a political euphemism for strict adherence to the dietary laws
of Judaism?

It's a political euphemism for The Government requiring strict adherence to
the dietary laws of Judaism because it's the best diet for the most people,
and productive members of society will pay for the kosher food of the
parasites.

"Let them eat cake", as it was suggested that Marie Antoinette once
famously said.

On a more serious note Cohen, I am personally deeply saddened at the
transformation of the two houses to Democratic control. The loony left
wing liberal majority will now set about their social engineering
agenda, to the disadvantage of the American people, who turned on
President Bush as a knee-jerk reaction to the parlous situation in
Iraq.

However, now it's up to the Democrats to come up with a solution to
Iraq, and if they are successful in that endeavour then I too will
applaud them!

HAGW!

For at least the next two years, they don't have a veto proof super
majority. They can try all kinds of shit, but the looniest of it will be
vetoed. After that, who knows?

As will I.

'Course, I had the answer on September 12, 2001, but nobody listened to me.
