Default arm training question

Is anyone here doing triceps and biceps training alternately? i mean,
i find it great doing pushdowns for 3 sets followed by preacher curls
for 3 sets then so on.. do u think this would be beneficial for growth
or is this an inferior technique, kindly let me know ur opinion, id be
trying this for 1 month and i would post if this technique would be a
good one. thanks in advance..

Many people enjoy training this way because it's feels so
complimentary, like having carbs with meat. I'm not aware, however,
of any studies which show that it's more productive in any way (unlike
carbs with meat, which has a very real benefit: carbs help the body
digest protein)...splitting triceps and biceps across different days
seems to work as well. I prefer doing them in one workout -- and even
alternate them, as you do, sometimes -- but I don't think I've
benefited more somehow.

Check out my post on supersetting crunches and hyperextensions ("Great
Combo") for a similar situation.

ok. i will. thanks

oh, and one more, do you think supersetting back and chest could be
great? i mean, not supersetting but rather alternating them like:

Lat pulldown 3 sets
Machine chest press 3 sets
cable rows 3 sets
bench press 3 sets

what do you think of this?

>From my understanding, supersets are good once in awhile to shake up

your routine, but they're horrible as a regular routine. I've never
done what you're saying, though, so I can't denounce it.

My routine includes biceps and forearms on one day, then there's a
rest day, and triceps and shoulders are done on the next day. I've
seen substantial growth in the triceps, and I'm gaining definition in
my biceps, but admittedly my biceps have always been the hardest
muscle for me to grow.

For my biceps, I start with an 8/6/4 pyramid with the EZ curl bar,
then move to preacher curls, then move to concentration curls or
hammer curls (I alternate each workout period; if I do concentration
curls today, then next week I'll do hammer curls). I then end with
forearm curls, and that takes a solid hour.

I do that for every muscle group.

Its to avoid too much lactic acid buildup and, i suspect, recovery of
ATP/CP. IOW, it allows me to use heavier weights.

Its the amount of weight and total sets that count.

Try this;

Front presses
Narrow grip lat pulldown
Tricep pushdowns
Cable rows

Let me know if you enjoy it. I do.

I think it would *FEEL* great, sure, but whether there are any actual
benefits, I don't know. I haven't noticed any myself when I've done
them that way. I still like to do it just for the "fun" of it but I
just haven't noticed any "gains" over and above any other way of
training those muscles.

However, like I was saying in the "Great Combo" thread, supersetting
machine crunches and Roman Chair hyperextensions (alternating sets of
each exercise with one another, only without any rest) had a really
noticeable effect for me! So I'm a little confused why that should
work so well with abs and lower back muscles but apparently nothing
happens when I do the same for biceps and triceps (yeah I get "pump"
but I think it's the same amount of "pump")....
