Default Arnold Schwarzenegger's corniest role...

I vote for "Mr Freeze" in "Batman and Robin".

Anyone else?

I think the part where he was trying to get into the women's pregnancy
center was pretty funny:

He played "Handsome Stranger" in The Villain. That role was designed as
pure corn. All the roles were, imo. Basically a live-action Looney
Tunes episode.

> Peace, Om

But one I'd call especially corny was "Prince Hapi" in Around the World
in 80 Days.

And maybe more odd than corny was the one quote from Raw Deal (which
starred another of my favorite actors - Darren McGavin) that goes
something like, "You shouldn't drink and bake!" ("You should not drink
and bake," according to IMDb.)

Of course what thread re Arnie and corny is complete without mention of
Hercules Goes Bananas?

If I had to pick just one? Handsome Stranger.

Bonus Arnie Trivia culled from the recent IMDb visit: Kirk douglas's
villain in The Villain (1979) was named "Cactus" Jack Slater.
Schwarzenegger's Last Action Hero (1993) character was named Jack
Slater, too. A tribute to his first big budget flick?

You are more up on all his films than I am. I'm impressed. ;-)

I kinda liked "Last Action Hero" but agree that it was also very corny.

I'm surprised that he could deliver so many lines with a straight face.
Talk about self-discipline!

I've not seen "Handsome Stranger". I'll have to look for it.

If you blinked, it'd be rather easy to miss Prince Hapi.

I've got Darren McGavin's _Kolchak: The Night Stalker_ series on DVD.
Had to see Raw Deal for Arnie and McGavin. Have that on VHS somewhere.

DVD within arm's reach.

Leaning over I can see nearly all of Arnold's films from IMDb also
residing in my collection of DVDs. I even have the Streets of San
Francisco episode on VHS. A friend dubbed it for me as a gift along
with a bunch of other Schwarzenegger schtufff.

> I kinda liked "Last Action Hero" but agree that it was also very corny.

I enjoyed it but wasn't too crazy about the tall zombie guy with the
axe, the kid, the daughter, the red t-shirt or the cowboy boots. That
movie could have made money.

heh

The title is _The Villain_ and "Handsome Stranger" was Arnie's
character... just wanted to say that again before you go crazy looking
for it or risk a blank stare from some teenager at Blockbuster.

Hey, did you get mail today?

Hopefully, at least by Tuesday. Go, USPS, go!

I guess next time I order movies, I need to google.
But, I've been waxing cheap lately and getting pre-owned DVD's from
Hastings... or the discount ones from Wal-mart.

No worries. :-)

Thanks!

Hope you are enjoying the reading. I usually just dump those things at
the gym in the locker room every couple of years. I'm glad you are
enjoying them!

I'll save the NRA rags for you too if you want to do this again in the
future?

I don't subscribe to a lot of magazines. I don't have time for them and
"Time" gets left in the break room by a co-worker so I don't _have_ to
subscribe.

Considering how long I tend to keep them.... and the NRA rags are
quarterly I think?

And we get two copies since both me and the housemate are NRA members.

I think he likes that sort of thing. I heard him talking about
Terminator 3. He was talking about fighting in the bathroom as the
funniest thing ever. You can't really blame him for liking the lines
though. Ones like "I'll be back" made him famous.

Do you have Pumping Iron Curt? I remember friends telling me about
it as a kid. I guess there is all kinds of BS going on about that
movie so it is hard to get.

Best one-liners, IMO are still from Commando.

From both Arnold and Rae Dawn.

Whetever happened to her anyway?

You bet. It's a must have for any bodybuilding fan. I had the original
George Butler's and Charles Gaines' book with Ed Corney on the cover.
It may be stored in a box somewhere.

Many people still think Schwarzenegger is on the cover of the first
print of that book.

http://edcorney.net/seminar2.html

There's another edition with Platz on the cover as well.

> I remember friends telling me about it as a kid.

Believe I must have first read about it courtesy of Joe Weider's Muscle
Builder magazine.

> I guess there is all kinds of BS going on about

Haven't heard about any BS. During his run for Governor in the recall
election there was some minor hubbub over a pic from the '70s of Arnold
and a topless blonde sitting on his shoulders while on the beach. The
topless blonde appears in the book and she's in the anniversary DVD,
but with her top in place. ;o)

> that movie so it is hard to get.

It's available at Amazon for less than ten bucks. Qualifies for free
shipping if you order $15 of something else on top of that or, hey, buy
three copies (Ahnuld moofies as stocking stuffers) and get the free
shipping. )

Shakespeare? The little brave meerkat that died defending his little
brothers and sisters from an attack by a rival group on Animal Planet's
"Meerkat Manor"?

I'm still in mourning

You can download it for free.

If you can, i would also download Arnolds comeback in 1980.

My "sports" folder, divided in 2 sub-folders, Bodybuilding and Boxing, have
20 Gigs of material.
Most of them full length movies. All for free.

Shute, you have LimeWire or something else that uses the Gnutella network,
dont you?

You mean "The Wimmin"?

McLish looked hot, didnt she?
I dont have the sequel, but i have both PI, the original, on VHS and i have
the Special Edition, from 2002 on DVD

Which includes the original PI, and a lot of stuff that Butler cutted out.
Classic stuff.

When Arnold made a comment about Franco hitting a side chest the wrong way,
i pissed my pants.
"Yeah...things change a bit when you move to the side, now dont they..."

I almost laughed as hard as Ken Waller. Great stuff.

"Let off some steam, Bennett." and "I let him go." are from that one,
iirc. On the DVD where Arnold lets the bad guy go, I'm almost certain I
remember seeing a cable holding the man aloft. Oh, those movie magic
tricksters! ;o)

> From both Arnold and Rae Dawn.

IMDb is my friend.

The Quest for Fire showed some of her, uh, talents (as body
paint-covered Ika) in 1981.

She was in The Color Purple the same year, 1985. Soul Man the year
after that.

Time Runner? IMDb offers that title for her from 1993 with Mark Hamill
of Star Wars. I've never even /heard/ of that one.

In 1995 she appeared in Crying Freeman. I've never heard of the movie,
but sold the comic book by the same title back in the '80s when I
worked parttime as a comic store clerk.

"The acting is very good and you can see that they spared no expense
making one of the best martial-arts/action movies of the decade." From:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112750/

Apparently she's also done a number of television shows as well as the
occasional movie. Her father, Tommy Chong (half of the comedy team
Cheech and Chong), was a lifter at one time, sporting a great pecs and
shoulders in at least one of his movies and, iirc, a Gold's t-shirt.

Hmm. When IMDb leaves questions unanswered, I'll head over to Wiki:

Heck, IMDb doesn't even list the movie Far Out Man (1990) where Wiki
says she starred with her father.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rae_Dawn_Chong

And, yeah, when both IMDb and Wiki let me down, I'll look for fan press
as the more informative alternative:

- "By the end of the 80s, Chong's career had reached its peak."
- "In 1995 she starred alongside Jeff Goldblum and Alicia Silverstone
in the thriller Hideaway before again retreating into low-profile
films."
- "An active volunteer for many charities, she strongly supports
Habitat for Humanity and Byron Katie's work with inmates in prisons.
Chong, who has wed twice including a brief marriage to Soul Man co-star
C. Thomas Howell, has one son." All three of those quotes from
http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/...they_now/57477

Free is better. (And Schuh says HE's smart!)

That's on my list of must haves as well.

Hopefully, Shute has all that. My computer is the equivalent of two tin
cans and some string. )

I really should have both, but watching it the one time put a sour
taste in my mouth. The movie really paints Rachel McLish as a
megabitch, imo.

Some interesting text there. Yep. It's on my list.

Yes.

I'm sorry, but Bev Francis should have come in last.
It's girls like her that destroyed women's body building.

Don't forget Soul Man where C. Thomas Howell plays a black guy. That
is definite classic 80's stuff.

BTW Tommy Chong was in the news again recently. I guess they went
after his business selling bongs. They where trying to make an
example out of him.
