I am a 41 year old male who is training for Ironman Canada 2007. Part
of the training involves lifting 2 - 3 times per week. I am currently
in the prep phase (e.g. 20 reps x 3 sets).
In 1998 I was run over and suffered two herniated discs on the two
lowest vertebrae. Since then I have suffered back and neck pain. My
left side is especially painful, with exreme tighness. In addition, my
left shoulder is about 1 inch higher than my right. Strength wise, I
am still above average. However, with the increased lifting the pain
has gone up. I recently started an intense stretching routine (Kit
Laughlin's book) and am hoping it will help.
As I type this my left side and especially the connective tissue at C7
is in pain. The symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome are similar but I
don't think that is the issue. I do work on a computer everyday so
that might be related. I have been to chiro, massage, physio,
acupuncture, etc.
I guess my question is if this experience rings true with anyone and if
there is any advice you might have to offer.
Thanks,
Mike
