Default Belated R.I.P. to Greg DeFerro

Greg "Rocky" DeFerro, born June 7, 1953, died January 14, 2007 at age
53 from heart disease.

Saw a note on http://insidebodybuilding.blogspot.com/ regarding the
death of Greg "Rocky" DeFerro at the age of 53.

Greg won the 1983 IFBB Mr. International. He also beat 8-time Mr.
Olympia Lee Haney at that year's World Pro Championships.

http://www.musclememory.com/show.php...+-+IFBB&y=1983
aka http://tinyurl.com/32byx5

Fans nicknamed him "Rocky" due to his facial resemblance to Rocky
actor Sylvester Stallone.

Rest in peace, Rocky.

Yeah, I saw him being featured in musclemag's anniversary issue. He
do look like Stallone, just without bells though. =)

and its sad that he wasn't able to afford even his rent after he got
injured.. =( Maybe the go heavy or go home philosophy isn't that
accurate at all..

That shoulda been 1979 for the Mr. International.

Which one? The 300th issue? Missed it then. Just saw it while surfing
tonight. Al Bino has me chasing my tail. ;o)

Ouch. But I guess you're right.

It's a niche sport and fame and fortune come to the few.

It is sad that the Weiders and others have made many millions of dollars off
of thousands of guys who never became famous or rich and who died in poverty
from heart attacks or kidney disease thanks to steroids.

Did Weider take your lunch money? He's a businessman. Contracts are
generally signed. Otoh...

I bet you're Dan Lurie. Now there's someone who has a right to
complain about the Weider boys. Coined the title/acronym International
Federation of Bodybuilders/IFBB and was their weight equipment
distributor, but got the boot unceremoniously.

Yep.. That's it.. It got many great pics.. And it's kinda like a back
to back issue.. Rocky had injured his back during training and it
caused him so much pain that he had gone from fab to flab.. Took many
painkillers .. and couldn't afford his rent maybe because of no career
after that injury and the amount of dollars used for his meds... So
sad... =(

These guys are taking advantage of poor people, usually young men and women
who are sacrificing their health just to fill out the card at a contest
where the results are pre-determined. When the folks like Shue get kidney
disease and have to drop out, where are the Weiders??

I bet there are literally hundreds of bodybuilders from the 1960s to the
present time that were mentioned in Flex or one of the other Weider mags and
then disappeared due to illness caused by steroids. It would be interesting
to track down all the people who have had a brief mention as "rising star"
and were never heard from again. Where are they now?

Yeah.. I do somehow believe he's fixing some contests. Just read
those comments of Sergio oliva (who called weider a master of breaking
your back as opposed to the master blaster nick), Serge nubret, and
etc. But, those men are old now, so, may god bless them for whatever
they have done in the past.. =)

I've seen it and even picked it up a few times. Everson typically has
pics of himself in there wearing clothes from the 1980's. I guess the
pics are from that time period, too. Iirc, he has a good sense of
humor about those pics, mocking himself about it.

Did you say you're located in the the Republic of the Philippines?

Talk with you later...

I have seen it around, but I am very wary of blowing $6-$7 for a
bodybuilding mag unless it is something special.

All the mags are the same thing every month. The Top Ten Supplements. What
is the Best Protein. How to Lose 30 pounds in two months. How to Blow Up
your Chest (or Biceps, Triceps, Legs, etc.). Interview With Dick Smegma The
Steroid Guru. Top Tips From XYZ the former Champion. The Story of One-Legged
Wonder Tim Tompkins.

I usually only buy those anniversary mega-issues, and I missed #300.
Sometimes I read them for free at the gym.

It is.. But somehow there are few articles worth reading.. And the
pics of pro gives me that new drive to work hard.. I know I may not be
that big but I'm training my ass naturally and hoping somehow I can be
on par with those steroid biggies.. =)

> I usually only buy those anniversary mega-issues, and I missed #300.

Musclemag's #300? Well, it's a great issue.. Robert Kennedy giving
awards to best body parts and all.. But the muscletech advertisements
are like crazy.. You can see them everywhere...

> Sometimes I read them for free at the gym.

Yeah, me too. but from time to time I have to have my own mag, those
special edition ones.

You come across as a lot more mature than 22, and you have good manners,
which seems to be in short supply these days.

Interesting. You have posted sporadically here for a few years.
However, it appears that only now are you satisfied with the level of
discourse in this newsgroup.

You have no idea how scary that is.

An observation that is not too dissimilar to the only man in a
marching squad of troops, whose right foot hits the ground when the
remaining marchers' left foot hits the ground, yet he stubbornly and
self-righteously believes he is the only one in step!

But then with some people it was ever thus...

Ugh! It's Monday! ;o(

What's more interesting to me is that you'd post to a thread that I
initiated in response to on patron being polite to another patron. I
mean, your whole schtick is that your so-called trolls are destroying
this newsgroup, I thought. And I also seem to recall you dismissing
any bodybuilding content, so why *your* interest, John? Rhetorical.

You are and ever shall be, unfortunately, a colossal jerk. Pointing
out what you claim to be interesting, but what is simply an excuse for
you to be what you repeatedly seem to complain about.

To wit:

Were you directing that at yourself, John?

I think you have to have a little sympathy with how John feels these
days. There was a time when he was regarded (mostly by himself) as the
most important person in MFW.

He had the power, with the assistance of a few 'toadies', to decide
who could and could not post here, and even vied with other "old
regulars" as to who was the record holder for the most prolific
posting to MFW - who in fact was Lyle "Masturbating" McDonald.

Few would oppose John Williams, who hated with a passion the practice
of anonymity, but which he sought with alacrity when his 'powers' were
on the wane and people began to fight back, when he quickly hid away
behind his initials JMW.

To stand up to John Williams would bring down upon any such
unfortunate individual, an enormous barrage of collective bullying,
followed by the most scurrilous cyber-stalking, which happened to be
Williams' obsessive hobby, particularly if his targets were
unfortunate enough to have any degree of even minor prominence
displayed elsewhere on the Internet.

In addition, and in order to exaggerate his self-importance, he would
proclaim in the most ponderous way possible, in pseudo
scientific/medical 'terms', the neural pathways and other detailed
biological participation of all bodily matter involved, when the
subject might simply be curiosity about the correct form for an arm
curl. He would never use one word when twenty would hopefully bump up
his imagined reputation as some sort of fount of all knowledge with a
formidable intellect. He was a legend in his own mind!

So now he has to take a back seat and there is nowhere else for him to
go. He would be dismissed without ceremony should he venture to a
moderated forum, and if he tried to start his woeful tactics in
another Usenet group, he knows his many enemies would seek him out -
with the now inevitable results.

So spare a charitable thought for this unhappy chap, whose unfortunate
and frustrating station in life spurred him on to seek prominence in a
very combative cyber arena, where his low level public service
employment allowed him more than ample time to indulge himself to his
own entire satisfaction.

His early successes obviously went to his head, but he didn't have the
wisdom to know when to ease off. It was inevitable that he would
eventually meet his match, which of course he did - and the rest as
they say (whoever "they" are) is history.

How the mighty are fallen!!

I've had my workout and lunch, so Monday is fine again! ;o)

How do you surmise that because I think one guy has good manners I'm

Perhaps I have seen more of VinCe's earlier stuff:

"Rob has talents indeed with bodybuilding but so is Curt. I've been
reading their posts for a long time and both are good bodybuilders
indeed ..."

Uh, OK. Let's see:

Rob: http://www.rustyiron.net/rshcuh01.jpg
Curt: http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a36/imnoone/Buddha.jpg

The fact is that VinCe was offended by Rob's abrasive persona, but
like most newbies, he instantly warmed to Curt's arse-licking. *That*
was the basis of his commentary. He had no idea how much each one
knows about bodybuilding. Rob competed several times. Curt's
knowledge is limited to being a BB fanboy and Googling links for
others in hopes of making them his "new friends."

A similar jewel:

"oh, i get it... You're insulted coz i post only about curt and rob!
Oh, boy. Curt's a big name here and so is rob. How about you? a
nobody. So shut up if you can't spit useful productive words.."

>> You have no idea how scary that is.

>
>Not as scary as those flying monkeys in The Wizard of Oz

IMHO, scarier than Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, and Freddie Krueger
all rolled into one.

Thanks.. I appreciate that. =)

You see some of us here are kinda respectful which is very important
although time changes.. Boys here right now are too impolite. Maybe
media has something to do with it...

Yeah I was.. It was because I JOINED THIS GROUP TO INTERACT WITH
FRIENDLY KNOWLEDGEABLE PEOPLE AT FIRST. Believing these guys here are
cool since I had read some posts, okay, great posts. Robert Schuh had
given me some great opinions which I gave time to evaluate and so is
Curt... But it turned out that most old guys here who are much
experience as they call themselves are the ones who act like little
children waiting santa....

>but
> like most newbies, he instantly warmed to Curt's arse-licking.

I did? Well, I based my actions on how I was accepted as a patron of
MFW.. If you were to choose who would you be with or ask opinion from
guys who don't give shit in what you say or to the ones who would give
your opinion a fair chance?

> *That*

I do.. Really... You don;t have a damn idea.. =)

>Rob competed several times.

Well, that doesn't count. Being a competitor doesn't tell that you're
a great bodybuilder . Rob may have competed, that's given, but being
open to everything is different.. His knowledge may have stagnate
since he wasn't even giving a chance with new ideas.. Now who's much
better? Rob or Curt? I'd rather choose curt. Not for the knowledge
but for the Attitude.

> Curt's
> knowledge is limited to being a BB fanboy

Don't underestimate a fan if you're not on top mister. Didn't you
know that being a fan is the first step to be the best??
Think about it.. before things like that come out in your mouth...
Looking at things unfairly is too bad for the heart..

>and Googling links for
> others in hopes of making them his "new friends."

That's it! That's life. everyday we try to help people so we can
somehow be a friend of them.. That's given. That's what we need as
humans.. Don't tell you didn't did any of that?

Admit the fact that being here at MFW doesn't always require meaness
mister.. Many was provoke in here and insulted that's the reason why
you guys were thinking trolls had attacked this place.. COZ in the
first place the real trolls here, were YOU. Guy's who couldn't afford
to give good comments...

I did asked for an apology for will brink before didn't i? It was
because he deserved it. NOw with rob, I don't know.. =)
Have a nice day,

Willie Brinks deserves Tittie-Twisters and has gotten many of them during
his sordid life pimping bodybuilding.

The resemblance! Uncanny. Well, other than the fact that Rob's got
about a hundred pounds more muscle and a waist that is ten inches
smaller, but, yeah, other than THAT, why, we're TWINS!

(Okay, like the movie.)

> <snip> instantly warmed to Curt's arse-licking.

You're all about the "arse-licking" commentary, aren't you, Johnny? Is
that what your apparent discontent is all about? You feel
unappreciated? I don't fawn all over you and you resent it. Is that
why created your various tribute pages?

Poor baby. Curtie doesn't pay attention to Johnny. You need the kowtow
or you get fussy, don't you? '

*Please*, hold your breath.

And have I ever professed a greater knowledge of bodybuilding than
that of a fan?

Must everyone behave as you do? No. And must every instance of polite
interaction on my part automatically be noted as an attempt at making
new friends? Otoh, is there anything wrong with making friends? You,
however, seemingly take pride in alienating people who might benefit
from interaction with you.

That's scary to you? Fictional characters? (Flying monkey, otoh, are
REAL, dammit.) No wonder you never followed up on my request for your
home address and phone number.

If you find movie monsters scary then I suspect someone with an actual
pulse might have you wetting your pants.

He's speaking of JWM, if you didn't catch that and, hey, fwiw.

Spot on analysis, btw, Charles!

The Shue picture comes up as a dead link. The Curt picture? Nipple rings?
Dang, that is ten shades beyond gay.

Sorry Curt, I did not know you had turned. Now I understand all your other
posts. You have a cute, girlish body. No doubt the guys at the biker bar
appreciate your humor.

It's your computer or maybe the Rob Schuh fan club overworked Johnny's
web page capacity. Ho!

The handbook said eleven. I must be doing something wrong.

Need to know basis, Al.

I'm guessing you'd be the first.

Uh, I think that says more about you than it does about me, actually.
I was going to ask you to post pics of *your* last girlfriend, but,
uh, don't bother if you think *I'm* cute and girly. Oh, okay, I am
cute. (blush) But girly? Time for you to get some help, Al.

> No doubt the guys at the biker bar appreciate your humor.

No, noooo. I'm a serious, even grave fellow.

You have nice thick nipples. I have seen a couple of other photos of you and
you look like a skinny, ugly guy. I guess under the right lighting and after
a few beers you might start looking like Gwen Stefani.

Shue looks like he was in pretty good shape. I had seen some fuzzier photos
were he did not look that good. Very sad that he has had so many health
afflictions, as he looked like someone who could have been a top star in
bodybuilding.
