Dorian was awesome, but I've never seen his Blood and Guts DVD or
video.

Not that you aaaaaaasked, but...

I had a Haney VHS tape somewhere as well as the one Ms. Olympia with
Claudia Montemaggi's posing routine. Not sure where those got to.

Currently, my bodybuilding DVDs include:

- Mark Dugdale's Driven
- the 2006 Iron Man Pro where Dugdale placed 5th
- Rühl's Made in Germany
- Lenda Murray's Seminar, Contest & Posing DVD
- Yaxeni Oriquen's Latin Style which also includes footage of the late
Fannie Barrios
- Strictly Black & Strong starring Lenda, Dayana Cadeau, Iris Kyle,
Nancy Lewis and more exceptional female bodybuilders

Driven is several hours long and set up like a documentary. Not all
about bodybuilding but also includes chapters on his family, his faith
including a visit to his church, his business, as well as the
prerequisite gym visit. He's training for the 2006 Iron Man Pro during
this DVD and that fact encouraged me to purchase that DVD, too.

The '06 IM Pro is a little more than two hours, covers the contest and
bits of the prejudging. Lonnie Teper asks eventual winner Lee Priest
where he thinks he'll place and Priest drolly replies, "Second!"

Rühl's DVD is ridiculous (in a good way). It's 200 minutes in length
and includes a trip to the grocery store with Markus and then-
girlfriend-now-wife Simone that, imo, is worth the price of admission.
Deleted scenes, training with Simone as well as clips of her on the
contest stage, Markus is a funny guy and what I'd call a genuine
person in that he doesn't front or put on airs. The training segments
are phenomenal.

Lenda's DVD is HOT! Covers Lenda from 1990 FIBO appearances up to the
2003 Ms. Olympia. A beautiful woman and an incredible physique. Lenda
has a great personality and gives a great interview, imo.

Yaxeni's DVD has a great dual posing routine with her friend Fannie
Barrios à la Schwarzenegger and Columbu. The film is 80 minutes in
length and includes footage of Oriquen from her first Ms. O in 1998 as
well as her win in 2005.

Strictly Black & Strong is 100 minutes and includes interviews with
several female bodybuilders who are no longer active in the sport as
well as name competitors like Kyle and Cadeau who I'd like to see
release solo DVDs.

Of course, I've got Pumping Iron on DVD, too.

And you?

I had a copy years ago. It really is amazing. Dorian looks like a stone cold
freak in it. I wouldn't mind getting another copy, but the cheapest I have
seen it is $45.00. I'm not sure I want another copy that badly though. :-)

OK, your first say that you have not seen the DVD nor video, but then you do
a review of it? :-)

you should join the claudia montemaggi fan club. or, better yet,
starte a moderated newsgroup!

i have a haney leg tape in my basement. i have a set of tapes that
leo costa jr. produced for optimum training systems right before they
blew up with their "big beyond belief" concept. i have one of the
four tapes with leo costa and tom platz training...i dunno...maybe
arms. the leg video is wild...as you would think it would be. costa
comes across as a moron in them and tom platz just seems to be picking
up a paycheck after the whole icopro debacle fell through.

> Of course, I've got Pumping Iron on DVD, too.

they left the scene with arnold smokin' that j, didn't they? i only
have the tape that i bought back in probably 1993.

oh, and i watched collateral damage last night. arnold looks a lot
like clint eastwood in it.

i might have owned some other training videos in the past. oh, and i
took a look on youtube and there seems to be small snippets of the
blood and guts video in piecemeal there. there was a mentzer on hit
biceps training piece, too. enough with the one set to failure!

here's the link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-a5uDmwJFp4

if that's the way mentzer had his trainees train, then it was nothing
like the agony i hear arthur put his trainees through.

You're trying to get rid of me, eh? ;o)

JOIN THE CLUB!

Seriously, uh, no seriously. There's a club.

I'd actually love to know where she is and if she's still in any kind
of shape or involved in the sport at some level.

> i have a haney leg tape in my basement.

And I really enjoyed the Haney tape that I had. Ty "The Ropeman"
Felder was working out with him. Felder is an NPC official these days,
afaik.

One thing I remember from the tape was Lee advising, "Stimulate, don't
annihilate!"

And his commenting, something like, that it took him ten years to
build these biceps and he wasn't going to injure them and have to
start over or not having another ten years to do it again.
Entertaining, intelligent, great stuff. He should have all his
training tapes on DVD for sale on his website, but I don't believe he
does, unfortunately.

http://www.leehaney.com/store.htm#photo

I take that back (kinda) as he does have some pretty cool items
available.

Before the biceps tear? (

> the leg video is wild...as you would think it

I remember Platz in the old MD and S&H mags and being torn when Platz
was sent to the Universe rather than one of my favorites of the day -
Ron Teufel.

(Googles)

"This happened in 1978, the first year the AAU Physique Committee,
[which became the NPC], was affiliated to the IFBB. That meant the AAU
Mr. America contest would decide who would represent the US in the
IFBB Mr. Universe.

But there was one problem... the AAU Mr. America was in height classes
and the IFBB Mr. Universe was in weight classes.

In the Mr. America, Ron Teufel won the short class and Tom Platz was
second. Tony Pearson won the medium class and the overall Mr. America
title. Now they had to decide who would represent the US at the
Universe so they brought in the IFBB Universe judging panel
[(different panel... Sound familiar)] and made the athletes compete
according to weight.

Tom Platz was now a middleweight and competed against Tony Pearson. Of
course, Platz beats Pearson to represent the US in the middleweight
division and Pearson doesn't go to the Universe. So here is poor Tony
Pearson (overall Mr. America), who was not good enough to win the
middleweight division because of a different panel.

If you think that sounds weird... the head of the AAU Mr. America
judging panel was Jim Manion, the same Jim Manion who will be the head
of the Mr. Olympia panel. The other panel was selected by the IFBB in
1987, just as it is in 2005. The more things change..." /copy and
paste

Ha! The author is crying for Tony Pearson, but what about Teufel? Teuf
beat both Platz and Carlos Rodriguez in the short category and
*didn't* go to the IFBB World Amateur Championships. That's total
bullsh!t.

Bonus trivia, that contest held in Acapulco, Mexico is where Mentzer
earned a perfect 300 and won his pro card.

Meanwhile many didn't think Pearson should have beaten Teuf at the
time. Teufel was the Gaspari of the Mr. America, having been the
bridesmaid in 1977, 1978, and 1979 as well as second in the short
class in 1976. So he sits at home while two guys he beat in his height
class go to Acapulco and win their weight classes - Platz as a
middleweight and Rodriguez as a lightweight.

I'm not familiar with Costa. Or more likely I just forgot about him.
Regardless, it's a shame that ICOPRO and the WBF didn't make it. If
Vince hadn't been "under federal suspicion for steroid
distribution," (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_B...ration#History
) the world of bodybuilding might be a very different place.

Yes, and, iirc, Arnold discusses the scene in the anniversary addition
as well as seemingly dissing Franco in the "advices" segment.

No doubt.

*Senator* Schwarzenegger has a nice ring to it, but I'd love to see
him back on the big screen at the same time.

I'll have to check that out. Thanks, of course.

I forget which book included the Sergio and Jones workout stories.
Incredible.
