heh
I don't have a clue as to who would be the best candidate. I haven't
investigated or researched the topic at all. I am, therefore, not on
anyone's campaign trail.
Well, there is Kim Basinger...
I've been spending my online time over on: http://www.musculardevelopment.com/ http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/ http://bodybuildingradio.com/ http://www.davepalumbo.com/smart.htm
MD has No Bull Radio, past shows available, and forums. BodySpace has
tons of forums, too. And Pro Bodybuilding Weekly offers an excellent
interview show with plenty of past shows available. Also picked up
Dave Palumbo's online S.M.A.R.T. course which is proving to be very
interesting.
Offline it's been work, of course, and the gym. I'm up to 190 lbs. and
my lifts have been increasing. My (pop)guns are up to 15" which is
monster for this stick man.
Recovered from the flucoldplague thing recently only to run face first
into a back injury from, I'm guessing, some sloppy exercise form and
overenthusiasm. Pulled something in my middle back and stressed that
even further doing full squats. Bah! Resting this weekend.
Most recent workouts included:
2/19:
full squats - 185x8, 205x8, 225x5, 225x4 (dumb idea with an injured
back)
leg ex 150 3x10
leg curls 145 3x10
cardio 20:20 for .85 mile
2/18:
@ 9:30 a.m.
pulldowns 145x10, 160x10,10
seated rows 130x10,10, 145x10,10
standing bb curl 45x12, 65x10, 85x10,10
db curl 30x10, 40x10, 45's x10
@1:00 p.m.
pulldowns 115 3x10
db preacher curls 20 x8,8,8 per arm
hammer db curls 35's 3x10
seated rows 115 3x10
parallel bar knee-ups 3x15
crunches 3x15
2/17:
Smith inclines 135x10, 160x10, 170x10, 180x5
Smith benches 155x10, 160x10, 165x10
Oly bar close-grips 120x8,8,7
pec-deck 110x10, 130x10, 135x10
v-bar pushdowns 50x12, 60x12, 70x8
Anyway, I'm sitting right now. I want to lift, but I'm resting
instead.
Who's your candidate?
Obama's not my guy. I don't think so. I think he'll be good to go next
time, but not now. I'd like to see Clinton get in there just to see a
woman in office and because Bill did a not half-bad job previously,
right? Always heard that was Hillary's performance anyway, so this
will be the third term for her.
Seriously, your guess is as good as mine as to who will make the best
*next* prez.

mouthpiece for the True Power that has overtaken the American
political system. The elite, the illuminati, the evil-doers, those

Which Carlisle? There is one in Ohio and one in PA. Anyway, talking
about who is best candidate for the next president. I would say if
they follow the basic fundamentals that proven true for entire human
history, then that one is the best president, because we want more
blessings. We don't want to lose that prestige that we enjoyed from
past good efforts. Remember Dwight Eisenhower? He stop military
spendings, and got USA out of debt. And many says 1950's and 1960's
is American classic era. Why can't we stop military and get out of
debt? Ask any human, everyone want peace. Fighting don't leave you
feeling life is fun. Peace is cheaper. After all, it is their
problem that want to kill us, not our problem. Our problem is what we
choose to do. We can just tightened our border access. |

There's one in the U.K., too, I believe, but I'm in PA. Uh oh, you're

Nooooo! Henry, if only I'd listened!!!!

It might be a leeetle too late for that. Never hurts to try to make up
for current bad efforts, though, right?

I'm pretty "circle the wagons" ish right about now, too. But I'd bring
Mexico and South America inside the circle. And, of course, Canada.
And Europe. Uh... do the Taliban have tattoos on their foreheads that
say, "I want to kill you."?
Because that would help.
Seriously, I agree on reducing military spending so far as a "war" in
Iraq is concerned. It's like our war on drugs. Fail.
No answers here, but I do hope the next president is successful and
she or he doesn't get us all nuked. I never feared a nuke until
recently. The Twin Towers was a big eye opener or fear instiller. If
THAT can happen then wtf?
What's to stop someone from setting down a briefcase nuke and
detonating it? Suicide bomber makes it BIG! I'm surprised it hasn't
happened already. And, no, I don't think that Army E-1 personnel
running around Baghdad has kept those potential terrorists off the
streets of Manhattan, too busy to do something like that.
God bless our military personnel, but bring 'em home to bless 'em,
okay?

Good idea - and if we just stop spending on education and health care -
wow!! we could have a huge surplus (I don't mean forever, just for a couple
of years to catch up, kind of thing) |

Hey Curt,
None of my business, but sounds like you may be over training a
bit, like doing same back exercises twice on same day? Could be reason
for the injury you mention. When you are trying to gain size and
strength, its Quality of workouts, not quantity you are after. Hit it
hard but rest in between workouts or you will only tear down muscle
and never allow it to rebuild, especially training drug free, which I
hope you are. Just my 2 cents, I wish you well in your efforts,

Thanks, Dave. And, hey, maybe that is when I injured myself. I doubt
it, but it does seem like a possibility. The second workout was after
having a meal and was much lighter and performed with much stricter
form than the first workout.
I appreciate that you took the time to offer your 2 cents, though.
Thanks. I took the weekend off and the back is settling down
considerably.
You're absolutely right on quality over quantity. My goals is to work
smarter instead of just throwing weights around from now on. Still,
it's difficult for me not to want to add a bit of momentum to your
movements.

"Curt" <curtjames@gmail.com>
Yo Curt,
I don't have a clue as to who would be the best candidate. I haven't
investigated or researched the topic at all. I am, therefore, not on
anyone's campaign trail.
Well, there is Kim Basinger...
I've been spending my online time over on:
Don't we all!
Offline it's been work, of course, and the gym. I'm up to 190 lbs. and
my lifts have been increasing. My (pop)guns are up to 15", which is
monster for this stick man.
I got 18" Gus and I'm getting bigger every week if I just stay with it.
2/19:
full squats - 185x8, 205x8, 225x5, 225x4 (dumb idea with an injured
back)
Do you have a suit and strong belt, wrap it around post and pull it tight
may help your back!
2/18:
@ 9:30 a.m.
pulldowns 145x10, 160x10,10
seated rows 130x10,10, 145x10,10
standing bb curl 45x12, 65x10, 85x10,10
db curl 30x10, 40x10, 45's x10
@1:00 p.m.
pulldowns 115 3x10
db preacher curls 20 x8,8,8 per arm
hammer db curls 35's 3x10
seated rows 115 3x10
parallel bar knee-ups 3x15
crunches 3x15
I love all this stuff but is it too much for one day? Think about a four-day
routine.
2/17:
Smith inclines 135x10, 160x10, 170x10, 180x5
Smith benches 155x10, 160x10, 165x10
In my opinion, stay away from the "Smith Machine" this should be what hurt
your back. It does the balancing for you so the supporting muscles don't get
stronger with the rest of your back or chest or what ever. We talked about
this on the list last week!!! THE SMITH MACHINE WILL HURT YOU!!!
Anyway, I'm sitting right now. I want to lift, but I'm resting
instead.
Who's your candidate?
I'M NOT SURE YET.
Lets just talk Gym!
So, how've you been? How's the weather. We have snow in Carlisle.
The weather is nice, around 90f everyday with a light rain the last week.
The Orchids love it.
The sun just came out while I'm writing this.
Remember, it's tomorrow here, 11 in the morning, I just got back from the
gym.

How do you have an ~*18-inch*~ gun and only benching 155 for reps? I'm
beginning to hate you now. It's your elbows killing you, but you
still maintain the guns. Yup. Definitely hatin' on Burr.
re a few back exercises

I'm on a four-on, one-off routine. And that was only 6 total sets for
pulldowns. The afternoon "workout" was just light and a fun way to
spend some time on a weekend afternoon. I wouldn't call them work
sets. More like cool down sets? lol
At my age perhaps I should be doing fewer workouts per week. Dunno.

And Pete, iirc, said that's all bullsh!t. I might have hurt my
shoulder pressing too hard for the 180x5 on the Smith inclines but it
certainly didn't hurt my back. At least I don't believe it did.

Sounds awesome, Burr. Very nice. Can I be your neighbor? I retire in

That's gotta be one of the best feelings in the world. I love the

For 30 years I did the same workout. Mondays & Thurday upper body, Tuesday
and Friday, lower. Cycled Wednesdays and rested, chased women at the beach
weekends after I was single.

So what did you do today? It's Monday (*was* Monday for you), so you
did upper body? I'm nursing a muscle pull and so did a bigfatnothing.
The doc recommended ibuprofen 3-4 over the counter tabs every 6-8
hours as needed for comfort. Activity as tolerated.
Very aggravating.

You didn't read the "Senior Day" post
Senior Day @ The Gym,
The gang was all there and the music blared and the iron flew.
Roomy did a great lip sync with "Oh My Pa Pa" while doing flies, William
danced with "Don't be Cruel" and the Coach sang Mack the Knife.
I feel real good about my workout to, it was back and shoulder
day. I did my flies, shoulder press with bar and dumbbells, then did
Dead-lifts with 200 pounds 14-10-8 with shoulders way back. With the
arthritis in my hands I have to use wrist strips but it works and I get it
done.
Finished with three sets of 60 toe raises
OK, you kids see if you can't get in the gym one time this week
and do something.

Curt, I want you to know that I resent the implication. We do shower in
Australia. In fact my personal hygiene is exemplary. I do take a shower *at
least* once a week and usually on a Saturday. And I might add that I take
that shower whether I need it or not |

I'm rearranging/changing my exercises to accomodate this muscle pull
thang I stupidly did to myself. Pulling dumbbells off the rack hurts a
good bit and so I switched back to Bodymasters machine presses where
the "bar" is already in position.
Last thing I can find of that machine in my pen 'n paper journal was
the entry for October 24, 2007 when I did:
120 x 9, 7, and 4 reps
Fast forward four months and one back injury later and tonight I
pressed:
50 x 8
80 x 8
100 x 10
120 x 10
140 x 8
160 x 10
180 x 8
Nice 60-pound jump, however it's machine and certainly not a barbell.
My max for Smith incline presses was 180 x 5 reps the last time, so I
know I can't press 180 lbs. on a seated barbell press. NO!
Still, felt good to see a nice leap in my numbers over that four-month
period.
What did you do today!?

Well you could start by unpacking The 7-Minute Rotator Cuff Solution
and reading it instead of doing more bullshit isolation exercises and
whining about injuries to a bunch of piano legged has beens, wannabes
and never will's.
I'm jes' sayin'.
Despite having given my external rotators a serious pounding these
last 18 mos I must face the fact that in all probably I'm dealing with
something mechanical that either is or mimics spinatus tendonosis.
Either or it's time for an MRI.
The only downer is now that the shoulders are seriously big I'm afraid
the first words out of the specialist's mouth will be 'stop'.
