I've been getting The Bomber's weekly e-mail newsletter...I signed up
just to see what it was like...so far, after two months of it, I'm
curious who he thinks his audience is...I know he seems to write for
himself as much as anyone else, but it's weird how every issue, it
seems, talks about not being motivated enough to go to the gym, how
workouts have been missed, et cetera...I like his "philosophical" take
on weightlifting, somewhat in keeping with my own (though he really
seems to ramble on after the first paragraph or two)...but...I get the
feeling he's talking not to weightlifters but to wannabe
weightlifters, always trying to encourage them, almost, to show up and
lift...I see his Iron Man magazine columns run along the same lines,
almost...is it really that hard to show up to the gym?
It takes me no more than five minutes to jog to my gym at a low-to-
moderate pace...I show up and I just lift, no questions asked: "why am
I doing this," "why bother," "why does it hurt so much" -- I leave
that shit for MFW! So who makes up the typical bodybuilding market/
audience...people who really don't like to exercise but feel compelled
to do so?? Reminds me of them church sermons on staying away from
evil, sin, temptation, and so forth -- which shows you how much of
that is going on! So all the talk about getting fired up, et cetera,
makes me think most people aren't really working out....
I find it interesting that Muscle Mag International's photos of their
readers are scrawny middle-aged guys, whereas Muscle and Fitness'
reader photos seem to be of somewhat reformed scrawny young guys...??
