Default Deadlift in a Two Day Split

Where is the best place to put a dead liftt in a two day split?
Mainly in regards to the leg exercises. Should I do it on leg day or
upper body day? And if I do it on leg day should I do it before or
after squats.

Right now I don't have it on leg day. I can feel it quite a bit in
the hamstrings and wonder if it belongs on leg day. I consider the
squat and deadlift the heaviest lifts and wasn't sure about putting
them on the same day.

Either leg day, after squats, or alternate between squats and DLs each
leg day.

Your form may be compromised if it's hitting your hams. Do you have long
legs?

As it's a [lower] back exercise it should go on upper body day. I could not
squat and deadlift on the same day, or even adjacent days.

Read upper/lower instead of leg/back. Too few coffees today.

You meant push/pull split instead of upper/lower. In case coffee
fails, try sleep. Works wonders for me. ;-)

Why do you say that? My hamstrings bear the brunt of the work when
doing conventional deadlifts and I have short legs.

I would say that a conventional deadlift is a hamstring/back exercise.
Sumo deadlifts are more of a hip exercise.

Depends on which muscls/joints are dominant.

After.
You really dont want a heavy bar on your back with ehausted spinals.
The other way around seems to work, since you hold the bar in your hands and
quads dont have to be dominant.

Shute, if you do squats/leg presses or hacks, and 2 rowing movements on back
day, you really dont need deadlifts.
When in doubt, do SLDLs.

Be careful with the biceps if you're using a mixed grip and put the DLs
after heavy biceps work. Easy to tear that way...

Why two rowing movements? I thought all the rows are pretty much the
same. The only variation being lat pull down and pull ups which go
for a different angle. And how do these work the lower back? That is
my main area of concern. I don't particularly like deadlifts but I
know my back is weak. Should I wait until my squat gets up to a
normal weight and see what happens then? Right now most of the
deadlift goes into my lower back, legs, and wrists.

Right now my biceps and shoulders the strongest muscles out of the
ones being used. I am more likely to pull something in my back or
legs.

For example, cable rows and dumbell rows. The Db rows dont stress the
spinals.
Or narrow grip and wide grip.

I general, yes. The wole point of rowing is to pull the shouilder girdle and
upper arm backwards. Thats the bottom line.

You mean different grip or different angle.

> And how do these work the lower back?

They dont.
The action is at the shoulder girdle/joint and elbows.

Cable rows work very well. You can also try heperextensions and SLDLs on leg
day.

Thats normal.
If you want to build your lower back specifically, continue with DLs. Try to
emphasize pulling with lower back/glute/hams instead of quads.

Cos I have short-ish legs and I feel in almost exclusively in the lower
back. However, I DO keep my lower back pretty much upright during the
exercise [as much as you can realistically] & drive thru my legs.
