| | | An Easier Q for jmw: calorie burn of lifting All-
In another thread, I said mechanical work can be an unreliable indicator of
burned calories.
But not in all cases.
There are some cases where you can, from non-chemical, non-metabolic
measurement, *calculate* calorie burn. The clean & jerk is one such
exercise, and is interesting because in this particular lift, the calorie
burn is in fact surprisingly *large*.
Since the Group Fagit has no clue on isometric contraction, and since the
c&j is a more traditional "measurable" exercise, GF should be able to
describe HOW this measurement would be done, and then *calculate* this for
us.
So, jmw, let's assume a 6' "standard male" (ie, 154 #, or 70 kg) is lifting
100 # in the c&j.
1. How many cals are burned in *one* c&j?
2. How many cals are burned in *one minute*, for, say, 20 c&j's? Hint:
it's not 20 x 1 c&j
Hints: There are assumptions you must make about the lift itself (a slight
fudge factor), about the body mechanics, and certain metabolic assumptions.
You can, however, simplify the lift and wholely eliminate the lift fudge
factor, or simplify further the body mechanics, and focus on the weight,
altho it is interesting to approx. the body mechanics for a more realistic
number.
The metabolic assumptions are well-known, and all fall into a reasonable
average.
Some of you are frantically raising and waving your hands, OOOOooohhhhh,,
OOOOOOOHHHH, meee, meee, I KNOW, I KNOW, me, meee, MEEEEE.....
Well, hold off a while, so's as to give GF a chance to figger it out
hisself, and show us how smart he is. Say about 4 hours or so.
Hint for jmw:
Wikipedia don't have the answer, and since it's doubtful GF can handle the
numerical crunching, even a *vague* outline on how to solve the problem
would be mighty impressive.
The answers are really pretty striking, and puts lifting in somewhat of a
new light.
AND, a little prize, incentive for our GF:
If our GF comes even *remotely* close to a correct numerical answer (not
guessed, but calc'd--iow, gotta "show the work"), I will pay his busfare to
Yonkers, then MetroNorth the both of us to Times Square, buy him his
favorite Happy Meal, and suck his dick right below where they drop the new
year's eve ball, during any rush hour or on any Sat. nite.
He will, however, have to promise that he will have showered at least once
that week....

John if you seriously think wrestling is gay then you need to get out
on the mat a few times. I have played a lot of sports and wrestling
is by far the most physically demanding. We had strong athletes quite
to go play basketball because wrestling was too hard. We worked out
for about 3 hours a day 5 days a week. I was so sore for the first
two weeks I could barely move. We did pushups and sit ups to start
off and finished by running stairs. Your weight training prepares you
very little for this sport. This is one area where you might see a
difference in a kettle bell trainer.
If you want an example I have seen more than one person not get up
after a match. I have seen plenty of bloody noses. And if you get
hurt they tend to tape it up and send you back in. One guy used to
smash his head against lockers and hit himself in the face. He would
destroy anyone he wrestled and everyone feared him. There wasn't
anyone calling us gay. Crazy yes, gay no. |

What does "gay" have to do with sport? Well, perhaps the ancient
Olympians... http://news.nationalgeographic.com/n...lympics_2.html
Regardless, and perhaps to Johnny's dissatisfaction and disappointment,
I like women. Although I do suspect Johnny's bitter over being kicked
to the curb by his reportedly former paramour, Elvira, he probably
hasn't opted for homosexual relations.
seinfeld
Not that there's anything wrong with that!
/seinfeld
Still, the very fact that he posted the "suck cock" post as an obvious
pejorative jab at me would indicate, imo, a homophobic bent on
Williams' part. No surprise, that, as Williams seems threatened by most
everything and everyone.

Damn, you sure did miss the point. I wrestled for 3 years in high
school.
The point was contained in the second paragraph of that post. And
that point is established over, and over, and over again. |

John Williams is very selective in answering questions and replying to
posts. At least it seems such is the case. And especially so when he's
in a weak position which, imo, is quite often.
See also his contradictions re conduits, enablers, killfiles,
crossposting, and more.
Group simpleton? Many would disagree, however I did comment that it's
his reputation he may be harming with his repeated acts of what I
consider idiocy.
Previously in MFW he encouraged the posting habits of one TBR. Recently
he lured a number of rugby fans to this ng. And in the not too distant
past, he crossposted to a tattoo newsgroup and a motorcycle newsgroup
for his own gratification and with no thought of MFW's whatever. Yes,
I'd say he makes poor choices.
I doubt I'm alone on that opinion, but others are apparently wise
enough not to pull his wedgie even tighter that it already is.

I think that is somewhat wide of the truth Curt.
As usual John Williams was struggling against some severe piss-taking
flak, as the result of his outlandish claims of having the waistline
of a teenager (32").
He was further wounded by his inability to address the legal advice he
was given, concerning his boastful criminal intentions concerning
inviting you to participate in a public affray.
I desperation he looked to divert the flak and once again resorted to
his idiotic cross-posting ploy, hoping to cause embarrassment to his
tormentor and solicit support. In this he failed miserably (again),
predictably receiving from the "rugby group" only much more
"piss-taking" and the contempt of yet another host of people.
They were not "lured here" per se, but were simply responding in their
own group, admittedly but unintentionally appearing also at MFW due to
the cross-post already initiated, to a shit-stirring idiot interloper.

The vast majority of people who post here are well aware of John
Williams' failings and weaknesses, which include symptoms of moderate
to severe mental ill-health.
However, they will not publicly stand up to him as they are well aware
that to do so would be an open invitation to become one of the many
victims of his persistent "trolling", blackmail and obsessive Internet
stalking.
To disagree with him is to become his enemy, as he is guided by the
many voices in his great bald mustachioed dome, who are very petty,
spiteful, vindictive and between them know every fucking thing there
is to know about every fucking thing! ;o) |

I guess I assumed you where accusing him of something he did or said.
Rather than something another person said about him. |

Notice, that with a *real* and judge-able task looming overhead, he has
dramatically quieted down. A little vague and pointless bulllshit on the
isometric stuff, but not much else.
Blackmail and stalking.... good grief....
Someone mentioned jmw and TBR--The Bill Rodgers???
Dat psychopath, and all his identities that carry on full, very long threads
w/ each other, *single-handedly* ruined rec.running.
My understanding is that a few people are looking for him.....

Seems likely.

No surprise, imo. I've never gotten a suitable explanation for his
seeming conduit contradiction. He's a classic example of the
do-as-I-say-but-not-as-I-do philosophy.

Yup.

Ol' J Dub created a web page that glorifies him after a fashion. And,
yes, he certainly served as a conduit for TBR's posts much more than
once.
> My understanding is that a few people are looking for him.....
I can't see why.
He'd be the origin of the "Not if I see you first!" rejoinder, imo.
