I bet people who have an innate need to stand on top of the bodies
they fling with their words are a whole lot uglier than fat ever could
be.
I guess fat people have it much better than you though. Society sees
fat as ugly but a black heart is terminal.
Deal with it.

I gained some weight during the four years after I broke my hip and for
quite a bit of those four years - it hurt to even walk. I didn't gain a
lot (I am overweight - but not fat) - but enough that I am trying to
lose it now and I am older than when I first broke the hip and losing
weight is so much harder than when I was younger. I was also on the
pill for the last two years for medical reasons and just went off them -
will see if I have any better luck now. I wasn't lazy - I have self
control. The pill is known to have weight gain affects on women and so
does age. I am eating half what I did in college and didn't gain weight
then. True some people are lazy and some have no self-control but to
generalize that all fat/overweight people are like that is unfair.

You use a personal bias to assume qualities on a person based on a
person's physical looks. You don't base your decision on skills that
person might have, but rather an irrelivent attribute.
Sorry, but that's the definition of a bigot. |

Damn right!
Worst yet, they have let their weight slide over a very very long
period of time.
These people are constantly eating because their lives are so empty.
They need to get a hobby! |

Yes. What is not known was that in the original Broadway Play, on opening
night the lyrics were miss read to:
Poor Judd is dead
A candle lights his head.
They were origially written as:
Poor Jesus is dead
A candle lights his head.
And so they continued with the error. |

The Christ brothers are well known. Our national anthem was supposed to be
"Jesus can you see ..." but with the death of Jose, it was changed to "Jose
can you see ...." and the rest is history |

Quite correct. His not paying attnetion, not watching where he was going,
directly led to his death. "Jose can you see by the dawn's early light,
what the heck you are doing" didn't quite work properly. It was later
fixed in the second revision. |

Au contraire. He wouldn't employ someone who dresses slovenly or has poor
personal hygiene, so on the same note why employ someone who is obese?

Please excuse the brain stem. We have a lot of those infesting SSFA.
This particular brain stem thinks that obese people automatically
stink and have poor hygiene. The color of the sky in his world is off
just like his logic.

The old "thyroid" bullshit excuse. I was wondering how long it would take
for that one to come up.

Look at that. The one, the only, the original, the stupid Naughty Boy is
back. Who said Usenet couldn't go further downhill? |

Somehow I have the feeling that you are so heavily invested in feeling
superior to people who don't conform to your personal weight standards
that ANYTHING anyone mentions would be dismissed as a bullshit excuse. |

If you eat too much food you become a fatty. It's pretty simple.
Also, sitting around all day and stuffing your face will make you fat
and stay a fatter.
Some people enjoy being fat though, we call them fatties or fatters. |

For every complex problem, there is a simple answer that is absolutely
wrong. I'm sure it must make you feel smug as all hell that you aren't
fat while others are. I'm sure you feel your own success is due to
your personal efforts and if only others weren't so lazy/stupid they
could be as thin as you are.
That's an example of a common psychological principle called
"attribution theory."
Simply put, we tend to give ourselves credit for our successes while
blaming others for their failures.
You are thin, therefore must be right and virtuous. Others are fat and
therefore must be lazy and stupid.
But hey. grasp at whatever straws you want. Just don't delude youself
that you've spent any real intellectual effort on the problem. |

You're the stupid one. I weigh no less than 350 pounds right now and
that is called FAT!
Calling it something nicer doesn't make it change the fact that people
who over eat get fat. It's OUR own fault, no fancy imbalance. |

And I thought the term was "BMI Challenged". <grin>

In general, I think there are problems involving both appetite and
exercise -- the input and output of energy.
I've never been obese, but I have been overweight, and I had to make a
conscious effort to lose weight. I attribute the tendency to put on
weight to a general failure to feel satisfied after consuming enough
food energy to meet my needs.
Also, much of my time is engaged in activities which keep me from
physical activity and don't burn calories, such as reading and sitting
here at the computer.
Inanition is a vicious cycle. The less exercise we get, the less we
enjoy it, and the poorer we become at doing it. There was a time in my
life when I used to run long distances just for fun. Now I feel
compelled to keep my mind active, which means sitting still.
I suspect these influences work on other people too, but also that there
may be more fundamental problems involved, not only of lifestyle, but
also of nutrition, biochemistry, genetics, and so on, yet to be discovered.
It's obvious that many brilliant geniuses have been morbidly obese, and
I've never subscribed to the notion that "laziness" (the tendency to do
no more than necessary) explains why some people burn fewer calories
than others.
In fact, efficiency in the physical control of our bodies is also called
"good coordination," "grace," and "athleticism." The avoidance of
wasting energy is what distinguishes great athletes, dancers, and
race-car drivers, as well as cooks, hunters, production-line workers --
all sorts of workers -- and people engaging in every kind of physical or
mental activity. What some people call laziness others call efficiency.
But more to the point, the very idea that insulting people -- making
them feel guilty and ashamed -- may be a useful approach to solving
their problems disgusts me thoroughly, for reasons which ought to be
obvious to all thinking people. To me, it exemplifies a horrific lack
of understanding, compassion, and politeness.

What kind of response is that? Do you understand what Kate said? Her
problems are caused by a medical condition she never wanted. When she
asked whether you understood that, you replied in the affirmative, but
without demonstrating any understanding at all.
