Default Hardcore Gyms in Boston?

I am looking for a hardcore gym in the Boston area. I am having
trouble finding any. It seems if you live in Boston you have to train
at a stupid sports club. I use to train at an amazing gym in Flint,
Michgan. I want to start competing again and I don't want to be
around a bunch of stupid people that are just at the gym to people
watch and listen to their ipods.

Are you too hardcore for Gold's?

Not a gym, however Boston-based, irrc. Excellent info that you may
find interesting.

No. Gold's would be fine. I was just wondering if there were any non-
chain gyms in the area.

Whoops, this is my second reply to this thread, I didn't see the top of
the thread at first. Anyway, there was a really cool old school gym in
Kenmore Sq for a long time called City Gym that I used to go to but
Gold's bought them out a couple of years ago.
There is Mike's in a few places. A small local chain.

I really don't know too much about them though, I have never been in
there. go to a place called Atlantis Sports Clubs in Cambridge.
http://www.atlantissportsclub.com/Locations.asp They are another small
chain. They aren't very "hardcore" though. They have enough free weights
to keep me happy but for squatting they just have a smith machine which
is fine by me but you might disagree if you are really "hardcore"
Real Estate prices here are sky fucking high. I doubt any sort of hole
in the wall house of iron worship could be economically possible
nowadays but I suppose it could happen. You might get some luck if you
go to a local lifting comp and ask around? I suspect most of those guys
train out in the suburbs though.

That is what I was thinking when he posted. I went for a few job
interviews in Boston recently. I saw offices with 12 desks placed
side by side and front to front. Not even any cubicle dividers.
After getting a $33 ticket for parking at an "out of order" meter
during a snow blizzard, I decided enough of Boston. I have seen
plenty of smaller places in suburban towns but I can imagine anyone
but the big chains can survive in Boston. I tried that BSC once and
they where $90 per month and I had to wait for equipment all the time.
