Default Has anybody tried the Trim Advantage Protein Bars?

This person was selling these in my gym and I tried one. Has anybody
tried one? Are there side effects? I am concerned about a protein
overload which might cause liver problems.

You are a true death defying daredevil.

Apparently.

From a protein bar? Like flatulence?

Yes, protein bars are well known to cause liver failure.

The voices in my head think you're funny.

David, I would appreciate a constructive response if possible. I guess
one part of my question was, is anybody taking these bars and if they
are, how many or how much should be too many? According to CNN, eating
exessive protein, specially processed kinds, more than half a gram per
pound of body weight per day, can cause liver problems. I am not a
professional bodybuilder but I am trying to loose belly fat. That's
why I was asking if anybody has eaten these bars and if they would
recommend them. They don't look like they are from a reputable company
but taste very good.

At gym prices I don't think you have to worry about an overdose. And
if it tastes good then they are probably loaded with carbs. Eat
enough of them and you will get even fatter.

It's always possible. It's more difficult, to be honest, when the question
reveals a lazy poster who can't be bothered to do a simple google group
search on a topic that has been covered over the years ad nauseum. But, I'm
in a generous mood, and will provide one.

"Processed" protein? Unless you catch and eat your own sushi, pretty much
all your protein is "precessed".

They are incorrect. Others here who like to read, and collect, cites from
studies might give you a few references. I'm not one of those.

More likely, you're trying to lose...

What is a "reputable" protein bar company? They're candy bars with protein.
Some are very tasty, but, they are candy bars with protein. If you drop a
pallet load of them on your head, they can hurt you. Otherwise, they are
candy bars with protein.

If you are trying to lose fat, you may want to skip candy bars with protein.
Candy bars with protein can be useful if you're trying to gain weight.

Exessive and loose, eh? Perhaps an excessive protein also affect your
ability to spell? I wonder.

One should not get their medical/science info from CNN. Got a link?

Bars = supplement. Bars don't = food. Supplements are fine, but don't
replace food.

Your concerns seem related to additional protein in one's diet in
general, and not protein bars or this particular brand of protein bar in
particular. Do a few web searches on phrases like "supplemental
protein" and read.

The short answer - many people on this newsgroup take supplemental
protein and find it helps them with their body composition. My only
"complaint" about many protein bars is how removed from real food they
are - you can usually do better making your own shake with protein
powder plus milk, juice, or fruit, or you can find some protein bars
that don't contain these supposed "carbs that don't count as carbs." I
like these

http://www.warriordiet.org/tek9.asp?...cific=jnongnl8

It's still fake, but it's at least a tad closer to some actual food in
that it doesn't try to hide the carbs or fat it contains - but it's
still got artificial flavor and coloring in it. I also use some Met-Rx
bars that have corn syrup in them, hydrogenated oils, and are just
generally worse in this way - but I still eat them and it hasn't killed
me yet.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

I suspect the news report he heard about may have been related to the
excess junk you speak of. I looked up one of the bars he mentioned
and there was a lot of ingredients I didn't recognize. I suppose if
you ate five of those things a day the liver might have trouble
dealing with the added ingredients if they where unhealthy. A good
clean source of protein from either a drink or food shouldn't cause
any harm to the body.

If you don't know that the correct term is "lose" vs "loose," then you
are FAR too fucking stupid to worry about. It is called Natural
Selection and hopefully morons like you will die out and NEVER
reproduce. I also LOVE your thoughts in the amount of protein needed to
cause "liver" problems. Are you for real or are you just a troll?

Uh . . . let's see . . . .how many bars can you eat before you might damage
your liver . . . uh let's see . . . hmmmm that's a tough one . . . maybe 14
bars?? that sounds like a good nbr - or maybe just 6 bars. Yes I think 6
bars and then your liver will be severely damaged - oh what the heck - eat
11 bars of that yummy protein bar and then hopefully you won't damage your
liver. I would worry more about your brain cells. You are about as stupid a
fuck as I can recall anyone who ever posted here.

Who is "CNN" stupid - it is like saying "according to the newspaper"

I have tried them along with a cupboard full of other protein bars. No
different no better no worse than any others. Maybe a less shoeleather/
bricklike than some. A side effect? They are marketed by Quixtar a
multilevel marketing company so you might get sucked into that
scheme.

>I am concerned about a protein overload which might cause liver problems.

Err and wasnt that news hype about kidneys vs high protien and wasnt
that only if you already had kidney disease?
Your concerns are baseless. The protein bar you mentioned: 14 to
16grams protein, average chicken breast: 25 to 30grams protein. I dont
think you'll tip over into the 'excessive' protein usage anytime soon.
