Default "High Intensity" resistance training?

Hi,
What is meant by "high intensity" in relation to resistance
training? Does it refer to lifting weights that are near to your 1RM? Is
it lifting a lower weight but for more reps and with less rest inbetween
sets? Any clarification appreciated.

Yes. Classic definition of intensity is a percent of you max.

That too. HIT (high intensity training) used this definition. You
trained with high intensity if you simply couldn't do any more reps.

That too. In HIT you were training with high intensity, if you used
almost no rest between sets.

So it's just working hard during workouts?

Pretty much. Depending on context, any of the above definitions could be
used.
