Unfortunately that is very true. But the group is mfw and not msw.
I wouldn't want such a simple minded soul to loose his way and end up
in misc.sissy.wankers. Then again he may like it there.

Second row is a NH term AIUI.

When did the IRB introduce standard naming conventions?

What did they decide about the following:
scrum half, half back
fly half, first five-eighths
inside centre, second five-eigths?

Besides which, it's this a little rich coming from the man who insists
on calling the Warratahs the Blues?

Could be. I really don't know what the most common reference is now,
but I saw some rugby slogan T-shirts on eBay, including ones with the
scrum positions. The one for that position said "8TH MAN."

I preferred the rugby slogans that went on bumper stickers back when I
was playing, like "Rugby player have leather balls." Of course, my
favorite was a reference to the rugby players who survived the plane
crash in the Andes in 1972:

"Rugby players eat their dead."

Now who was just said only a few posts ago:

"Maybe you two should get a room."

Why it was John "Fatboy" Williams, and in his own words he also said
above:

"Hey, when it's all he's got ..."

.... ;o)

What the fuck are you on about now, you drug addled nimrod? The number
8 has been called the number 8 for at least 50 years in NZ and the
same with locks (second row). The jaapies commonly call the number 8
the eighth man and anybody with the odd firing synapse should be able
to figure out the the fella with the big number 8 on his back, the guy
they call the number 8, might conceivably be called the eighth man by
some. Christ you talk some garbage.

And what the fuck has the IRB got to do with the price of kettles? The
only thing they've standardised is the numbers and even then, the
jaapies swap their 6's and 7's. You'd have a hard time convincing
Kiwis to give up their fractions for inside this and outside that. As
God ordained, the backline is, was, and shall be fractions from half
back to full back. Hence first 5/8th, second 5/8th, centre 3/4, wing
3/4 and so on.

I think you'd best tell Mrs Warne that that last batch of
sharpener-uppers hasn't done the trick - has she got anything
stronger? Tell her you're in need of a Tune-up. She'll know what to
do.

We called it 8-man here in western Canada.

Term locks isn't really used much in our club - 2nd row.

And of course flankers were flankers.

As a forward I never really worried about what the wussies who watch the
game from out back called themselves...

This is from John Williams, Chris, who is a serial "troll" and an
obsessive Internet stalker.

It is he who deliberately cross-posted to RSRU to deflect attention
from himself, because he was taking such a hammering at MFW. It is a
ploy he uses often, much to the annoyance of the innocent recipients
of the unfortunate groups he settles on.

Responding to him and allowing the cross-posting to continue will
delight him, as he adores attempting to manipulate people.

The obvious answer is to ignore the dopey bastard. I promised
Didgerman that I wouldn't post this again, but this is the mustachioed
body-building old fat freak many years ago when he was much slimmer,
but still grotesquely obscene:

In Aus 25 years ago we had 2nd rowers behind the Front row and a lock behind
them followed by half back, 5/8 IC, oc etc. The No. 8 could have been
called 8th man in N America and many other places it is an expression I had
not heard

5 or 6 years ago iirc could be longer the positions were standardised. I
notice that just because a standard ( reccomended system ) was introduced it
is not necessarily followed

not anymore I do realise that the team that its supporters had nicknamed
the blues became the Tahs when the S12 came about.

I have just got an e-mail back from a mate playing rugby at the Uni of Idaho
and he confirms that the no 8, lock position is commonly called 8th man an
expression I hadn't heard before. You live and learn

Hmm. Some might call you a troll.
