| | | I Can't Put on Weight and Am Thinking of Trying Steroids Hello.
I am a male, in my 20s. I am very thin. My body fat is maybe 12% and I
have no muscle mass. I look sort of similar to a very thin female
runway model or someone just released from a war camp.
Whenever I try to gain weight, it always happens so slowly that I lose
motivation.
I'll go to the gym consistently for 2 months and maybe gain 5 pounds,
and I'm eating more, and I'm not doing cardio. Right now, I'm under 130
pounds, and I'm not that short. Part of the problem is that I have
small thin bones.
I think it might even be unhealthy for me to be this thin. I don't
think I have any diseases that are making me lose weight. I've checked
on this and plan on seeing an endrochronologist to make sure my natural
testosterone level isn't messed up all the time.
I think the risks of steroids are worth it, at this point, because it's
the only way I can get a normal body. I'm not even looking to take some
huge dose and become some big strong guy. I just want to look normal.
I've started working out every other day and eating more already.
When people go on steroids, where do they normally get it from? I'm
afraid to buy online. Is there any legal way of increasing my
testosterone?
Are there any books on this? Websites? I just really don't know where
to get started, or if it's a good idea. |

Superset squats and pullovers for 3 sets 2 times a week, nothing else.
Drink whey protein in the evening. This is the main bulking routine
pro-wrestlers have been using since the 60's. |

Since the consumption of whey as a protein source was virtually
unknown until the 90s, I find that a bit hard to believe. |

Right. Hoffman Hi-protein was the supplement of choice in the 60's.
Today you would use whey. |

Awesome. Can you visit my gym? I hate being the skinniest person
working out there, see? i KEED! i KEED!

Same here. Just 6 1/2-inch wrists and 9-inch ankles. STICK MAN WALKIN'!
At least one of my ex girlfriends said I also looked like a P.O.W.
> I think it might even be unhealthy for me to be this thin.
Are your parents thin? What's the general life span for your family?
Most of the men in my family are six-footers and from 150 to 200
pounds. I'm 6'1" and the most I've weighed is just shy of 190 lbs. but
with a Buddha-like belly. I started at 6'0" and 150 lbs. as a
15-year-old, so, yeah, I feel your pain so to speak.
> I don't think I have any diseases that are making me lose weight. I've
> checked on this and plan on seeing an endrochronologist
EndRoCHRONOlogist? I love you, man!
Um, endocrinologist. And, yeah, I'd like to do the same thing just to
know what my level (or levels) is (are). As I'm bald and have a heavy
beard I'm guessing it's (they're) at least normal, but it would be cool
to know the number or numbers.
> to make sure my natural testosterone level isn't messed up all the time.
Sounds like a plan.
> I think the risks of steroids are worth it, at this point, because it's
> the only way I can get a normal body.
But what if - and it seems apparent that this is the case - skinny IS a
normal body for you? Not to mention (okay, I'm mentioning) the expense,
legality, and, yeah, motivation required if you pursue this possible
course of action.
> I'm not even looking to take some huge dose and become some
> big strong guy. I just want to look normal.
How tall are you? If you're 5'9" then (even just under) 130 is not that
out of the ordinary. Also, if you can't say that you've consistently
trained for more than that two months you mentioned, well, I'd say
steroids are absolutely not the route to follow.
Drink your calories. Eat your meals. Sleep those nine hours. Lift twice
a week performing only compound movements. Forget steroids until you
hit at least 150. Come on, give yourself a chance to gain naturally.
You'll save money and, trust me, most people don't care if you're
skinny or "normal" regardless of what you might think.
On the OTHER hand, hey, if you live in Denmark then let me stay at your
place over the next summer vacation, pal, friend, buddy? I wouldn't
mind doing a cycle and, you know, this schtufff is illegal in my neck
of the woods.
Seriously, I'm not against steroids at all, however if you can't eat
big and haven't trained for any significant amount of time then I
believe it's completely premature to consider using drugs to increase
your weight.
> I've started working out every other day and eating more already.
Good. Excellent in fact.
> When people go on steroids, where do they normally get it from? I'm
> afraid to buy online.
You should be. I just posted an article re a person who got caught
selling steroids. See: http://groups.google.com/group/misc....77fcb02cafd062
People who buy those steroids get caught, too.
> Is there any legal way of increasing my testosterone?
Despite the fact that I am recommending you NOT pursue steroids, I'd
say so. Yes, there's a legal way of increasing your testosterone. Just
ask your doctor about hormone replacement therapy. I doubt you qualify,
but it couldn't hurt to ask, right?
> Are there any books on this? http://www.amazon.com/Testosterone-A.../dp/0743237919
The book, according to the online description will, "explain how you
can boost your testosterone and energy levels naturally, without
supplements or quick-fix fads."
> Websites? http://www.hardgainer.com/
> I just really don't know where to get started,
Your local grocery store. Oh, and the neighborhood hardware store or,
yeah, Wal-Mart.
The grocery for milk, bananas, ice cream, peanut butter, etc. And
wherever you can pick up a blender. Reason being that, yes, you can
DRINK a thousand calories much easier than you can EAT a thousand
calories. For the most part, I'd guess, anyway.
> or if it's a good idea.
Again, I think it's a bad idea. For now.
Regardless, best of luck to you.
Please post a follow-up.

You just need to come up with a good routine and train for longer.
Two months is hardly anything. You should have been getting stronger
during those two months which is a good start. If you stuck with it
for at least six months you would have seen beter results. Besides
is 5 pounds really all that bad? It would be twenty be at least 20 by
the end of the year which is better than nothing. And your bodyfat is
definately at a healthy level. I think men can go down to 3% bodfat
before gets dangerous although greater than 6% is desired.
I doubt there is anything wrong with you. Your still in your 20's so
your testosorone levels should be better than someone older than that.
I don't know what you are dong for a routine but try something like
this three days a week:
Leg Press
Chin Ups
Dips
Bench Press
Overhead Press
Cable Rows
Do three sets of each at 8-10 reps. If it is too much than you will
have to come up with a split routine. |

measurements alone don't come close to telling the story- i've got
6.75" wrists and 9" ankles at 6', and weighed right around 155 all
through high school and college. never even came close to resembling a
pow, as i was always athletic, and always looked it. but i always
thought that i couldn't gain weight because of small frame, fast
metabolism, etc. a couple years out of school, not exercising, and a
lot of eating taught me that i COULD gain weight. ;D got up to 190 at
about 16% fat or so, and just dieted down to 173. stronger than ever
(which isn't all that strong at all...) , and looking to regain some of
that weight in a not so flabby fashion. ;D

Maybe they should check your chromosomes.
Perhaps its xxy instead of xy. Or worse, xxxxy.

You dont mention how much you actually eat, dont mention how you workout,
dont mention a lot of things, but want to jump on the steroids? Good idea
to get your hormones checked. Here's the what and why of hormone testing

I realize people fuck up the killing oneself part all the time. But
to me the important stuff are the other details like who is going to
find you and when. If your going to take your life don't let your
kids find you with brains splattered against the wall. And definitely
put your estate in order. |

I can't account for the surplus R, but an endochronologist is a chemist
who studies certain very peculiar compounds: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thiotimoline
Anyway, OP dude: yes, see a doctor, but give the old-fashioned method a
fair crack of the whip before you turn to better lifting through
chemistry. Lift two or three days a week, do big compound exercises (bench
press, bent-over row, squat, that kind of thing) with as much weight as
you can (i would suggest going to failure as a way to ensure that), get a
protein shake down you right after the workout, then eat like a
motherfucker the rest of the week (eat an extra 500 calories a day; if you
don't gain weight, add another 500, etc, until you start to get bigger;
Curt's advice about drinking your calories is excellent if overeating is
hard).

He's clearly decided to take the most painful route possible and come and
post here.
Still, at least he'll be able to get proper advice on guns here.

He's depressed like seven hells if he considers suicide seriously.
You don't have much gas then and even responding might be too much
work. I hope he's still around (he seemed to be planing at least semi
long termish, so he wasn't desperate yet).
Anyway, if things are as bad as they look, steroids are not risky at
all. I'd say he should try them before he'll try some of the methods
discussed at a.s.m.

Cart before horse. First make sure you're bloodwork and physical come
back normal. Make sure they include your testosterone/free
testosterone, liver values and a lipid panel so that you have
baselines.

Maybe they are worth it, that is a personal decision. Bear in mind
that in the USA the use of anabolic steroids (and now most
prohormones) is illegal and no doctor will prescribe them unless
medically indicated. We'll know more after you post the results of
your bloodwork.

Probably three theoretical options:
1) Find someone in your gym who will sell them to you.
2) Buy them online (become a forum junky)
3) Take a trip to Mexico
Don't do any of these things--they are illegal.
Squats naturally increase testosterone levels.

Yes but I've run out of steam.
