A Missouri man claims he's being discriminated against due to his weight,
according to MyFoxKC.com.
Gary Stocklaufer said he and his wife, Cynthia, were asked to adopt Gary's
cousin's 3-month-old son because the relative couldn't care for the boy
anymore. But a judge — the same judge who approved Gary's adoption of his
now 7-year-old son — denied the adoption on the grounds of Gary's weight,
Stocklaufer said.

Stocklaufer said he weighs roughly 500 pounds — though he's lost 35 and is
working to lose more — and that his weight hasn't stopped him from working
as a truck driver or playing with his son.
The couple said their attorney has filed a motion for a new hearing. |

The reporter stated that the judge had a concern that the father might
develop Diabetes or sleep apnea. And the judge in the case might have
read the "Friends' obesity can be contagious, study says" article,
too. http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dl...478/-1/LOCAL17

And the anti-fat hysteria takes hold! Instead of zombie movies, we'll
be seeing a rash of overweight people in film. Hmmm. Norbit! And those
other Eddie Murphy flicks. It's already happening!
Emo Philips is the only media representative on the skinny side? http://www.emophilips.com/home
That doesn't seem fair.

The real question in this case is who *is* going to watch out for the
child? Quite frankly, I think that the judge is over-stepping some
boundaries.

Geez dude I've always been willing to cut you some slack but frankly,
at this point YOU ARE A TOTAL BONEHEAD.
What part of the word WEIGHT in the FIRST FUCKING SENTENCE is unclear
to even a brainless schmoe like you???? Do you need a pubmed cite
<cue JMW>?
Go take some more Ritalin for you ADD Bob, and check back in, oh, 3
weeks or so.

Hmmm. Thirty-five is what percent of 500 pounds? Maybe Stocklaufer
could stand to lose a few *additional* pounds? He can give 'em to me,
okay?

Risking you calling me a bonehead or taking shots at me with a 626?
Isn't that a Mazda car? Never mind. Yes, risking your special brand of
ridicule, I'd like to actually defend ol' 'bert as I can see where
he'd see misc.fitness.weights as having nothing at all to do with a
guy (a fat guy at that - as, while 'bert's really mister cranky pants
when it comes to those he'd characterize as "homophobic bigots," well,
he's pretty A-OK with being a fat-ophobic son of a bitch) not getting
custody of a kid.
Now if you'd substitute CAT for every instance of CHILD in that
article, well, that'd be a differen't story, I suspect. Uh, yes,
literally, and also in 'bert's eyes.
Also if you'd substitute the 500 pound man for, say, Miles O'Keeffe
squatting 500 pounds then, too, you'd pique 'bert's interest.
> Go take some more Ritalin for you ADD Bob, and check back in, oh, 3
> weeks or so.
See? Now drug references work. I'm sure 'bert will feel all warm and
fuzzy when he sees reference to drugs and time frames. He's a walking
medicine cabinet it seems.

Good. A man that takes so little care of himself should not be
allowed to adopt an innocent child.

The word in the newsgroup title is "weights", as in weights that you
lift, not what someone weighs when they step on the scale.

Weights, eh? Hmm. I don't see "weights" listed anywhere in the groups
you've cross-posted to: soc.support.fat-acceptance, alt.vampyres,
alt.support.diet

Stupid kill file. Just makes it damned difficult to point out the
idiocy (hey, opinion) of noting "weights" in this newsgroup's title
without thinking about - duh - MISCELLFRIGGINGANEOUS and, oh, yeah,
fitness (as opposed to fatness or, say, maybe fitness of parenting?
Regardless, off-topic posts aren't exactly unheard of in Usenet or,
for that matter, in MFW.

Discrimination is perfectly legal if it is NOT one of the protected
classes such as race religion etc. Weight is not a protected class
so the judge is within his rights to use that in determining what is
in the best interest of the child. |

Well no one kept a mental midget like you from moving free in society.
Therefore liberalism has its advantages, yes?
