Default New Transplant time

IT looks like my transplanted kidney of almost 10 years now is starting to
go downhill, so I am getting worked up to get on the transplant list again.
The plan is to find a new kidney before this one gets bad enough where I
have to do dialysis again. We hope I can be transplanted again and not have
to do any dialysis. I'll keep you updated. I still feel pretty good. I get a
bit more tired on long days, especially now in the heat, but I am far from
being knocked on my ass! :-)

Good luck with the waiting, Rob. Hopefully you'll get that transplant
before the current one drops to the point of dialysis. What's your
creatinine level at present?

You know it's funny about the timing of all of this. Since I reduced my
hours at work I go to the gym about 6 days a week doing split routines.
I have become obsessive.

But the idea of injury has been playing on my mind to the point that
today doing dead lifts I usually work up slowly to my max (140 kg, which
I am happy with given my age, size and health) I decided to do less
weight but for more reps. It is such a mental thing, I can do a set of
10 reps at say 110 kg without even thinking of injury but when I put the
weight up I become paranoid about hurting myself.

And now with Steve about to be shot by Om because of a shoulder injury,
Burr having issues and Keith correctly pointing out that everybody has
some stage of arthritis, I ponder the impact of my worry of injury
versus "butching up" and doing the lift at my age of almost 57.

Anyhow, ramble over.....

"Bob Volkmer"

Bob,
I'm 66 going on 67 in Dec but I do push myself to the MAX BUUUUT use the
right form! If you do it right you can do for ever.

Today I took off a little weight because I didn't want to be to sore
tomorrow and I just didn't feel good.

I'm a diabetic and I have good days and bad day, most are very good and
I'm very happy with my life. I some how let my sugar get out of control a
few days ago and I have felt very bad for three days but as of this
afternoon I am feeling a lot better and should feel a lot better tomorrow.

I'll get on the bike and run my heart rate up to 115-139 and keep it
there for the first 30 minutes. If it's raining I'll use my oil trainer here
in the house but do the same thing. When I lift the most I can get my heart
up to is about 94 but as long as it's over 82 I'm OK, my morning rate is 35.

Bob, don't hold back, just be sure you do it right. That's the main
thing.

Good luck Rob. Out of curiosity, how long does a transplant usually last?
Is this something that you must deal with every decade?

Good luck to you. My son gave his friend a kidney three years ago, and both
men are alive and well. Both were in their late 40s, and both have to
watch their b/p to make sure it stays within the 120/80 range. The other
guy lives far out of state, but so far, so good.

Best of luck getting the kidney as soon as possible and I hope everything
goes well with the operation.

Since they're down there working anyway maybe you could have some other
organ enhanced? It couldn't hurt. :^)

<snicker>

Dr. Stamps told me yesterday he feels I'm doing better. If it had not
been for a very painful weekend, I'd agree with him. <g> Right now I
feel great. Stretching out helps the pain more than painkillers.

I hope Rob does okay. He's facing a far bigger challenge than I am!

You should have supplemented Clenbuterol...
I've read that it helps prevent muscle atrophy for limbs in casts.

Too bad it's not legal. :-(

It's just amazing what people will do to get attention :-)

Speaking of which, I'm out of my cast now and after six weeks of no
weight bearing, the injured leg is visibly smaller, especially the
calf. I'm very cautiously doing assisted Hindu squats, trying to get
some range of motion back in the ankle. It's very stiff, expecially
for dorsiflexion.

I'll get the muscle back, no worries there. It's the ligaments in the
foot and ankle that have my attention; it shows all the symptoms of a
bad sprain, and those can take a long time to heal.

When you're healed, Dr. Steve prescribes one-legged work. One-legged
deadlifts are great, and even just standing on one leg and moving the
other one around in various small and large patterns will help
strengthen the limb you're standing on - especially good for hips and
ankles in my experience as I've had relatively minor issues with both
and one-legged DL's fix them pretty quickly. Needn't even be weights -
there are yoga poses and movements, as well as qigong things, that have
you stand on one leg.

Good luck dude

You can always join the Yakuza and get expedited transplant priority at UCLA:

I think everything is going to be much easier this time around. #1, I have a
great deal of knowledge about all of this, I have a GREAT kidney MD to start
off with and I still feel good. My #s are bad enough to get me back on the
list and the hope is to get me retransplanted before I would have to do any
dialysis. I'll keep you all updated.

Thanks

Rob

I'm not sure what the average is. Some they lose after a day and some have
lasted 20 years. The one good thing is that the original disease is not
coming back. This time around it is a case of slow chronic rejection. Mine
will be 10 years this Oct.

It was at a constant 2-2.5 for years and about 6 months ago it just to 3.5.
It got up to 4.5, but was back down to 3.2 the other day.
