Dreschler's Weightlifting Encylopedia is the best I've seen. I'm 48 and
basically learning them in the last few years. http://www.wlinfo.com/
This has been invaluable and you never quit picking up new things.
Also Tommy Kono's book 'Weightlifting - olympic Style' is a gem/

Does the Weightlifting Encyclopedia video work well on its own,
without the book? Due to finances, I would need to spend in stages.
I've tracked down a few options; has anybody been able to make any
comparisons among these? My sense is that I would be happy with of
these 3 (including the WE video in the list) but maybe someone has
specific comments.
Dan John's video "Everything's Over my Head" http://www.davedraper.com/fitness_pr...uct/VDJEO.html
I've read his "From the Ground Up" and his no-nonsense writing style
makes sense to me
Jim Schmitz's "Olympic-style Weight Lifting for Strength and FItness" http://www6.mailordercentral.com/iro...sp?number=1203
People say the production quality is lacking, but the instruction is
good here.
Thanks for your kind help.. |

I prefer the book to the video, but that is the way I learn.

If you prefer that type of book and like Dan John than I'd really
recommmend you start with Tommy Kono's book. Very, very practical advice
and like most good coaches he puts it in a way you can process the info.
His advice on snatching to flair the lats like a bodybuilder really
helped me.

Great resource.
I'd recommend viewing this and buy Kono's book to start out with. Cheap
and solid initial instruction.

I own this DVD and if you liked his book then you'll probably like the
video. It's just Dan and his family (including his dog) out in his
back yard, but the drills are fun to follow, and his teaching style is
pretty straightforward.
I don't have anything to compare it to, though, and I am and admitted
Dan John fan boy, so take my recommendation with a grain of salt. Now
that you can get all three of his videos on one DVD its not such an
expensive purchase.

I don't know about this one.

I ordered that one. It was back-ordered, so I guess someone is burning
another one on the computer:-)
If you're really a Dan John fan, are you going to Catechism yet? |

No, but I have read most of his religious writing as well. What can I
say, I like to read .
